When people think of villa weddings in the south of Spain they immediately think of the Costa del Sol’s glitzy beach clubs of Marbella. But did you know that just a forty minute’s drive from the Golden Mile is an old city of culture overlooked by lush mountains beside the Mediterranean sea?

The old city of Malaga is overlooked by lush mountains beside the Mediterranean sea.

Málaga is a port city on southern Spain’s Costa del Sol, known for its Victorian architecture and historic Cathedral – and the birthplace of Picasso and Antonio Banderas! The streets are a mix of modern shops and restaurants, intertwined with old narrow winding cobbled streets and authentic Spanish tapas bars. You can take a walk through its Botanical gardens, visit museums and art galleries (including the Picasso museum), enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride along the city’s promenade or simply window shop and lose yourself in the Andalucian charm of the coast’s most cultural city. Looming over Málaga are two massive hilltop citadels, the Alcazaba and ruined Gibralfaro, remnants of Moorish rule.

And just outside of this great city are spectacular countryside, mountain and beach-side venues, including some spectacular locations that we are proud to work with and offer to our couples for their villa weddings in Málaga.

Villa weddings are becoming more and more popular as guests start to treat their Spanish destination wedding as an extension of a bigger family celebration abroad. Having your own villa means that you can have quality time with the ones you love, relax in the comfort of your ‘own home’ whilst having the perfect location for pre- and post-wedding parties…as well as the day itself.

When we explain to our couples that we offer an array of luxurious but typically Spanish wedding villas, they instantly think of an old hacienda or rural crumbling home. Then they join us on our coastal venue tour and they are spoiled for choice!
