Part 2 – The Ceremony & Reception: Irish Couple From Oz Marry In Spain…

Wedding in Spain’s Marbella.

Last week we told you all about our amazing experience planning Maire and Billy’s wedding celebrations in Marbella. After two years of communication between Spain, Ireland and Australia the couple were finally on sunny Spanish soil for the run up to their wedding and the fun could begin! The Irish couple, who live in Brisbane, Australia, were bringing together friends and family from all over the world and wanted the opportunity for guests to mingle before the big day. So in true Sunshine Weddings style we planned an unforgettable pre-wedding party in a traditional old Spanish house in Marbella, in fact the oldest building in the area!

130 guests gathered in the outdoor rustic courtyard and made the most of Andalucia’s amazing weather, whilst enjoying traditional tapas and plenty of Cava. Having a pre-wedding party is the perfect way to ease your guests into the Spanish way of life and get everyone in the party spirit before the wedding. Maire and Billy’s friends and family loved the relaxed and authentic vibe of the old Spanish house and got to know all the other guests before the big day arrived.

The following day was the wedding day, and preparations took place at a pretty villa In Marbella. Maire and the wedding party were beautified while guests were collected in two 55-seater coaches where they were taken to the spectacular beach wedding venue in Estepona.

The first thing you notice about this breathtaking beach-side wedding venue is the view. A large lawn gives way to a sweeping beach and the sparkling sea beyond that can be viewed from all sides of the wedding beach venue.

Guests were greeted by our classical guitarist Mark as they took their seats outside facing the magnificent views. The bridal couple had chosen a simple and elegant colour scheme of white and green, and Maire looked stunning in her fitted white dress with lace detailing, holding her bouquet of white roses with gypsophelia and crystals. When she entered to Canon in D there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Following the ceremony the guests congregated on the terrace and enjoyed drinks while taking in the views of the beach and being serenaded by Mark’s traditional Spanish flamenco guitar.

The bridal party returned from their photo session with photographer David Toms, dancing to Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson – which set the tone of fun fun fun for the rest of the wedding day!

Guests enjoyed a delicious meal of prawn cocktail or chicken Cesar salad starter, then a choice of seabass or pork, before finishing with a trio of desserts followed by the speeches. The day was full of touching moments, such as Billy’s mother presenting the couple with a home-made cake that his aunty in Ireland, who was unable to attend, had made the couple. Billy’s mother had travelled all the way from Ireland to Spain with it on the plane and in his final speech Billy paid tribute to his family and all those who couldn’t be there, including his aunty.

As the sun set, the party got into full swing. The couple’s first dance was to Fleetwood Mac and then the band played a couple of sets before it was time to get down to the DJ. The party continued until three o’clock in the morning when we finally got the last of the guests back onto the coaches and delivered them tired and happy to their hotels.

The following day, the guests and their sore heads, met up in a traditional beach-side chirinquito in the centre of Marbella where they enjoyed a much needed barbeque. They soon perked up and festivities continued in the local bars of Marbella.

Maire and Billy had wanted a fun wedding with their nearest and dearest all together in one sunny place – and that’s exactly what we were able to offer them, Marbella and Estepona are the perfect mix of unforgettable Spanish wedding venues, great views, a relaxed atmosphere and lots of fun. In fact we gave them their own Iberian Brisbane!
