Paul and Eilidh Wedding In Spain

Hola people

Well this is it, the big countdown to the royal wedding on September 17th 2015 – Eilidh Swash and “The Duke of Tarves” are getting married.

We have set up this website to include lots of information about the wedding day as well as other information on accommodation, transport and local amenities. Hopefully this will make it easier for you all, if you are able to make it. The website will be continually updated leading up to the big day with further details of the pre and post wedding venues.

We really do appreciate if you can make it and we will do our best to keep the costs low, as you have made the effort to come down for our wedding in Marbella.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either of us. We are both more than happy to help in any way, shape or form we can to ensure that the planning is as easy as possible for everyone.

Just to let you know as we have been asked a few times that we will be in Marbella from 11th Sept to 22nd September.

Tuesday 15th September

Planning a round of golf in the afternoon. After the golf, we plan start off in Harmons Irish Bar (Elviria) and then potentially move onto Old Town Marbella or Puerto Banus Non-golfers are more than welcome to meet us after the golf. Euan Crichton will email to confirm details.

The big ceremony – 17th September 2015

We have spent a few years coming to Marbella thanks to Pat and Emlyn (Paul’s mum and dad) as they have a nice pad in the hills of Elviria. Once we got engaged we spoke about venues and fancied doing something different. Marbella was our first holiday abroad together and all I can say is that we have had some wild times. Therefore as Marbella is a place close to our livers we decided to get married in the Spanish sunshine.

We did 2 reckies over to Marbella, the first reckie was a disaster as it ended up in an alcohol fuelled long weekend and we looked at 2 venues on the very last day before flying home that evening. Money well spent? I think not!

The 2nd reckie was very successful, drinking was kept at a minimum and we were lucky to meet “Sunshine Weddings” – local wedding planners. They are brilliant and still are because they are doing most of the planning for us.

After looking at numerous venues in Marbella and the surrounding area we decided to compromise and agree on this s**t hole. The ceremony / meal will take place at the “One star “Puente Romano Beach Resort – Marbella, which is situated between Marbella and the famous Puerto Banus (worth a visit just to see a bunch of fat mid 40’s cockney wide city boys dressed in white linen shirts giving it large to young girls). Nevertheless there is a nice selection of large yachts and restaurants / bars by the marina.

The ceremony is due to start around 16.30pm so guests are asked to arrive at 16:00pm. Cocktails will be provided after the ceremony and the meal will take place at the “Del Mar” beach restaurant within the hotel. A free bar will be provided after the meal – a dangerous game we are playing here as I know you can all drink A LOT so the free drinks selection is now the following’ – Evian, soft drinks (no red bull) and tea & coffee. Due to the economic crisis the evening entertainment will be provided by Bill Bonner (local DJ from Ellon).

Buses on 17th September

Elviria, bus pick up at 3.45pm. ‘Guests should wait at the bus stop on the roundabout in Elviria on the Supercor side of the commercial’centre.

Hacienda, bus pick up at 3.30pm

Bus back to Hacienda, pick up from Puente Romano at 12.30am (we would encourage everyone staying at the Hacienda to get on the bus – as there are only 2 sets of house keys)

For people staying elsewhere – there is a big taxi rank at the front of the hotel!

Wedding starts at 4.30pm but we’d like everyone there for 4.00pm so they can have a drink and be seated on time.

The Party – 18th September 2015

As you have all travelled far we would like to continue the celebration at the “Hacienda San Jose” (not the 80’s nightclub in Manchester). “Hacienda San Jose is located in the Andalucian countryside in a peaceful, tranquil location yet only 2 minutes from La Cala Golf Resort” – all according to the website.

The party will kick off from 3.30pm and probably finish in the early hours. A BBQ will be laid on thanks to a local catering company (Food is served at 4:30pm) and we will have a stock of cold alcoholic drinks ready for you all (Sandy Miguels, wine and spirits). It might be wise to bring a stock of drink with you as well in case we run out.

There is a large swimming pool so feel free to bring along your speedo’s and bikinis. Local Council Aberdeenshire swimming pool rules will apply – no petting, no dogs, no smoking and no bombing will be allowed in the pool. It’s a lovely villa and there is plenty of room to escape in the house if you fancy chilling out with a glass of red wine in the library room.

We will put on buses to the pool party at 2.30pm leaving from Elviria People can book their own taxis home as and when required.

Eilidh’s Marbs Henny

Monday 14th September – planning at late lunch in Elviria (3.30/4ish) and then jump into taxi’s onto Banus!’ I will email girls who I know will be there on the Monday to arrange.

No pressure to attend just whoever fancies one big blow out before the big day !

Paul’s Marbs Stager

Tuesday 15th September – planning a round of golf and then a night out on the booze in Old town Marbella Euan Crichton will email to confirm details.

Again no pressure to attend!’ Or option to join them afterward for the night time (non-golfers).

Wedding Present

You have spent a lot of money attending our wedding; therefore we DO NOT want a wedding present. We just want your banter and laughter in Spain as a present! Realise a lot of people will not accept this gesture but the words TOUGH come to mind !!!

Wedding Day Dresscode

Realise the day could be very hot for us Scottish tourists and we don’t want to you to be feeling uncomfortable due to maps of Africa under your arms and your at the point of passing out but at the same time we would like everyone to scrub up well and abide by some sort of wedding dress code. The groom, best men and ushers will be dressed in kilts, shirts and waist coat (plus tie for photos) so you are all more than welcome to wear a kilt if you wish…..if not, smart trousers (no denim, especially white denim), shoes and a shirt will be perfect……if you want to wear the suit jacket or ‘tie then feel free but we don’t want anyone dressing to impress but not thinking about the heat as it could be quite uncomfortable from 4pm – 8pm!!

Adios for now and see you all soon.

Eilidh and Paul x

FLIGHTS

The nearest airport is Malaga and you can get cheap flights with the following airlines:

  • Easy Jet, Glasgow-Malaga (direct) www.easyjet.com
  • Ryan Air, Edinburgh-Malaga (direct) www.ryanair.com
  • Jet 2, Glasgow and Edinburgh (direct) www.jet2.com

Pricey ones are BA, KLM, Air France and SAS/Lufthansa as they involve a 2nd airport and are all pretty pricey.

ACCOMMODATION

We think Elviria would be a lovely place for you to stay – we love it!’ There are loads of cheap apartments in Elviria, it’s a nice little place for the young ones and the oldies.

Taxis are cheap if you want to go into Old town Marbella etc for drinks, or party in up in Puerto Banus!’ There are always plenty of taxi’s at the taxi rank in Elviria to take you wherever you fancy going We’ve never had to queue before There are restaurants, tapas bars and nice bars There is also a beach and supermarkets etc K Longue is our favourite bar and Richard who owns it is from Aberdeen The restaurants/bars/supermarket and large taxi rank are situated near the big roundabout in Elviria that can be seen on any map of the place.

If you hire a car from the airport it takes about 30-40 minutes to get to Elviria There are also plenty of taxis at the airport to take you to Elviria or you might want a private transfer which can work out cheaper.

Here are some apartments, the cost approx. 450-600 Euros a week as they are out of season Some of these are not easy walking distance to the beach, bars and restaurants, so please check the exact location before you book if you’re not hiring a car.
