Interview With Sunshine Weddings Founder Scott Gibbons…

Destination wedding in Spain.

Today we are talking to wedding planner and founder of Sunshine Weddings Spain, Scott Gibbons, about the highs and lows of the wedding world and why he can’t resist a sunny beach!

Hi Scott, thanks for taking time out of your busy day to give us a quick interview. So how is 2016 looking for Sunshine Weddings Spain? We are having a great year already. We’ve been working on some very exciting weddings in the South of Spain and this summer alone we have 73 weddings planned.

When does the wedding season normally start? In the south of Spain and Mallorca, our wedding season is generally April to October because of the fantastic weather we have. But I’m very lucky because we also manage weddings in the Caribbean and March saw one of our VIP Barbados week-long weddings take place at the Sandy Lane resort. What an amazing way to kick off the season that was!

How do weddings in mainland Spain differ from those in Mallorca? I oversee the Spanish weddings and Lisa, who is also my sister, manages the weddings in Mallorca. She has a great team out there including Natalie and Amy, and although the destinations have some similarities we find that the bridal couples are very different per location. Although we have less weddings in Mallorca, they tend to be bigger and more involved as there is a higher volume of venues that are provided as blank canvases so there is more time spent on creating a perfect wedding vision.

How is 2017 looking for Sunshine Weddings?

Thanks to my amazing team we already have 30 confirmations booked for next year with another 5 about to confirm any day. So if you are reading this and planning your nuptials for next year…you better be quick!

What are the most popular wedding venues for couples in Spain?

As well as Mallorca we manage weddings all over the south of Spain and Gibraltar – from as far as GRANADA (Nerja) to Tarifa. Plus this year we also have three bookings in Barcelona, which is really exciting. But we can help anyone anywhere, so it’s always worth getting in touch and seeing if we can help.

What makes Sunshine Weddings Spain different from other wedding planners?

We actually spoke to our brides about this and they said there was two key factors that made us stand out from the others. Firstly it was our quick response times, our friendly professional manner and the accuracy of the information we supplied them. Secondly it was our attention to detail that begins from the moment we receive their fist enquiry. I can’t emphasize enough how important the details are on your big day, so the quality the tour when visiting venues, the accuracy of the wedding check list and the details of our wedding schedules are always perfect. A great wedding day doesn’t start on the day, it takes months of precise planning beforehand…and that’s what counts!

What makes Sunshine Weddings such a success in your eyes? Two things – my team and my amazing suppliers. Without such professional, enthusiastic and dependable people around us we wouldn’t be where we are today.

And lastly, what do you do when you aren’t planning weddings? Well that counts for about three weeks a year, haha! When I’m not dealing with bridal couples I love to escape and travel. I am always checking out new and exciting wedding venues and I’m a sucker for a hot tropical beach. My next destinations to visit are Nicaragua CORN ISLANDS and Flamingo Beach in Puerto Rico. I love a fresh adventure, learning about new customs and experiencing new things…in fact weddings are very much like travelling, you never know what might happen but you have great fun and you will never forget the amazing time you had!
