5 Do’s and Don’ts for Beach Weddings in Spain

Back

Beach weddings in Spain, and beautiful ceremonies beside the sea, are what we are famous for! Many of our bridal couples specifically choose to host their destination wedding in the south of Spain or Mallorca because they wish to have the Med as their backdrop on their big day. And who could blame them? With dozens of stunning locations to choose from, sunshine all year around and some of the best seafood in Europe – why wouldn’t you want to have a beach wedding?

But before you pack your sun cream and flip flops and get ready to say ‘I do’ with sand between your toes, check out our top Do’s and Don’ts for having a beach wedding in Spain.

1. Do consider your guests

Rocky bays and sandy beaches aren’t for everyone. If you’re planning your ceremony on the beach itself, think about your guests, especially the less-abled ones. The elderly, those with walking difficulties and people with pushchairs may find sand and pebbles difficult to navigate – so perhaps opt for a venue that has stunning views of the beach, but with firmer ground.

2. Don’t get bogged down with too much details

The best thing about marrying on a Spanish beach is that you don’t need too much pomp and ceremony, as the scenery speaks for itself. So instead of spending your budget on lavish floral decorations, why not think about having candles dotted around the venue. And instead of wedding favours, give your guests fans or parasols to keep them shaded while they take in the sea views.

3. Do think about the weather

The south of Spain is famed for offering sun over 300 days of the year, which means that your big day will most likely be a hot one. You may be tempted to get lots of sunbathing in before hand, but burnt skin doesn’t look great in wedding photos. So take it easy. Also, make sure you provide plenty of shade and seating during the ceremony. Choose a cooler time of day for your service (sunset ceremonies are always a great idea and make for fantastic photos) and ensure there are drinks before and after to keep your guests hydrated.

4. Don’t worry about the food

Other than the weather, one thing that you are guaranteed when marrying beside the sea in the south of Spain or Mallorca is that you will be spoiled for choice with your choice of menus and local dishes. Whether you want an informal buffet or barbeque, or a sumptuous five-cource meal overlooking the sparkling Med – you won’t be disappointed with the cuisine.

5. Do think about wedding outfits

And lastly, choose your wedding outfits with care. If you plan to marry on a beach in Spain or Mallorca, then there’s really no need for a top hat and tails or a big puffy wedding gown. Consider that a train could end up trailing in the sea and drag half the beach away with it, and think how hot the groom and his groomsmen will be wearing waistcoats beneath their jackets. Many of our couples choose simple, light fabrics and elegant cuts – you can still look a million dollars and stay cool and comfortable.
And the best part about getting a beach wedding in Spain? The beach party! A sky filled with stars, bare feet in the sand, the best party tunes and plenty of sangria to keep you going until dawn.
