Boutique hotel wedding Spain | Getting married in La Cala Mijas

Church weddings in Spain are becoming a popular choice for many bridal couples looking to combine the traditions of a church wedding with celebrations in the sunshine. This was the choice of the lovely bridal couple Emma and Alex who said “I do” in a wonderful and traditional ceremony in La Cala de Mijas Church followed by celebrations in a nearby boutique hotel.

Today’s feature article goes over some of the fabulous highlights of their very special day.

Located between the towns of Fuengirola and Marbella, close to popular urbanization of Calahonda sits La Cala de Mijas, which translates into ‘The Cove of Mijas’ and is one of the original fishing villages situated on the Costa del Sol, in the province of Malaga. A mixed residential and holiday area with many snazzy restaurants, shops and beach-front bars, a restored Moorish tower a friendly village atmosphere and only 25 minutes from Malaga international airport.

On a brilliant summer’s day, the first Thursday of August, Emma and Alex’s wedding guests gathered inside the bridal couple’s chosen wedding ceremony venue, a beautiful church on the coastal town of La Cala, for the radiant bride to arrive.

The classic church wedding song Ave Maria, sung by the amazing Laura Ellen, sounded as Emma entered the traditional church venue and glided through the entrance and down the aisle to meet her husband-to-be.

Surrounded by friends and family, the vows were said and rings exchanged to the hugely popular Catholic hymn “On Eagle’s Wings”, sung once more by the talented Laura Ellen who then went on to sing Hallelujah and ended the ceremony with the traditional wedding day hymn ‘Lord of the Dance.’

Once the service had completed the wedding party, a total of almost 80 guests—a great turnout making it perhaps one of the first large weddings of the season as covid was beginning to allow freedom of travel across Europe—were transferred in several coaches to their reception venue. A nearby boutique hotel, right next to the beach with the most incredible, unspoiled views over the Mediterranean Sea.

The reception drinks were held in a private space of the oasis-like hotel as the newlyweds, together with their nearest and dearest, enjoyed the breathtaking seafront views.

Following on from that, dinner was served on the terrace, in an open air space full of laid-back luxury. There the stunning views of the spectacular coast-line was once again the main feature of the evening and proffered a cooling breeze as the afternoon drew on.

In a tasteful, elegant and sophisticated location, Emma and Alex, together with their family and friends enjoyed a memorable day, where the celebrations took place long into the mid-summer evening…
