Bridal makeup expert Spain | Interview with Marbella based wedding makeup artist

The bride’s wedding makeup plays a key role in the wedding preparations, adding gleam to the beauty of the bride.

Bridal makeup should photograph well, last long, and require minimal touch-ups and it’s always important to schedule a Q& A with your wedding makeup artist before fully committing. Fortunately today we have been able to chat all things glamour and glow with bridal makeup expert, Chaliya, who, with over two decades of experience, knows exactly how to add a touch of magic to the natural beauty in every bride. Her wand—a professional set of makeup brushes.

Thanks for coming along today Chaliya, please tell us a bit about yourself; where are you from, how did you end up in Marbella and how did you become a makeup artist?

My name is Chaliya, I am originally from the UK where my passion for makeup started, I knew from a young age I wanted to do all things beauty!! As soon as I finished school at 15 I put myself straight into college to do a beauty therapy course. I have been in the makeup industry for 20 years and I love every moment! I also went to the Australian Academy of Cinemagraphic makeup in Brisbane to learn Special Effects Makeup!

Before moving to Marbella I lived in Dubai for 8 years as a freelance MUA working with celebrities and influencers and taking part in various fashion shows. I also worked for M.A.C Cosmetics in Dubai & London Harrods. My work has been showcased in local Newspapers and Magazine covers. I have now started my own online makeup academy where I teach makeup to students who also want to get into the industry.

How did you get into doing bridal makeup?

I once had my own business doing individual eyelash extensions and I thought it would be great to do a bridal course & offer both services. I’ve been doing bridal makeup ever since.

What bridal makeup trends are we seeing this season, or is it very much down to the bride’s personal choice?

Makeup always comes down to the clients preference but I would say the typical bridal makeup is renowned for a soft dewy minimalistic look, radiant and youthful looking with a pure complexion. Perfect coverage and contouring to give a flawless look, allowing the photographer to capture the best shots without the makeup looking too cakey.

What advice do you like to give to brides on their wedding morning?

Relax and enjoy the moment 🙂

What brand of makeup do you use? Is it hypoallergenic?

I use a mixture of low and high end brands such as M.A.C, Kiko, Loreal, Too Faced, Charlotte Tilbury, I have products for both normal and sensitive skin. I will always carry out a thorough skin analysis with my client before applying any products.

What are your hygiene processes?

I have a strict hygiene process, hands and brushes are cleaned and sanitised between every client.

How long will the makeup take?

I always take extra time with bridal makeup to ensure a flawless finish, makeup would usually take between 45 minutes to 1 hour.

What do you most like about being a bridal makeup artist?

I love doing bridal makeup and being part of their special day, getting them glammed up to feel like a princess for the day. It’s a happy and joyful experience.
