Choosing the perfect wedding makeup artist for your special day is just as vital as everything else…
Firstly, they are one of the first suppliers you see, so you want that person to be someone you connect with and feel comfortable with given they will set the tone for the rest of the day.
Secondly, professional makeup artists will ensure that your makeup compliments your dress and enhances your facial features, making sure you look beautiful in photos and in person throughout your special day.
To help you make the right decision in choosing your makeup artist, we’ve been lucky to catch up with Melanie, an experienced makeup artist, originally from London, who has been in the makeup industry for over seven years.
My name is Melanie, I am a makeup artist originally from London, and I specialise in the bridal industry and destination weddings. I’ve been in the makeup industry for seven years now and also specialise in shoots editorial and e-commerce shoots. I’m very down to earth and a huge people person which is why I love this industry. The most rewarding part of being a makeup artist is to make others feel beautiful on this special day. I’m extremely professional, but I have a soft bubbly side and definitely would describe myself as a hopeless romantic.
I spent some time on the Costa del Sol when I was younger and just fell in love with it. I love the people and the lifestyle and how beautiful everything is. Then to top it off, weddings (my passion) are a dream here because all the locations are so beautiful.
I started at a salon based in Essex where I built my client base and portfolio. During those initial years I met with various clients that had been in TV shows such as TOWIE, these connections grew, permitting me to meet more clients within the television industry such as Chloe Veitch, who I worked with on numerous occasions for the Netflix, American-British, reality “Too hot to handle.”
These shoots really helped me broaden and perfect my skills as they were all very varied: from fashion to music, video clips to TV shows.
Bridal preparations for me, is my most favourite part of being a makeup artist. As I said I’m a hopeless romantic, so for me being a part of someone’s special day is a complete honour. I think it’s really important to build a relationship with the bride before her wedding, in a way you become friends with your bride. Making someone feel amazing on their wedding day really is a wonderful feeling.
To be honest, in seven years, I haven’t really experienced anything unusual. Of course a lot of bride tasting requirements are different, but I’m yet to experience an unusual request as such.
