Pre-Wedding Festivities – Beach Bar Party

The day before the wedding, Lily and Lewis kicked off the festivities with a relaxed beach bar party. This intimate gathering, held with just their bridesmaids and groomsmen, featured a laid-back tea and BBQ. It was a perfect start to the celebrations, allowing the bridal party to unwind and enjoy each other’s company before the big day.

The Wedding Day at the Cortijo – Early Morning Buzz

The excitement was palpable as Lily and Lewis awoke on their wedding day at the cortijo. The serene morning quickly transformed into a hive of activity as preparations began. By mid-morning, the bridal party’s hair and makeup sessions were underway, infusing the cortijo with a buzz of anticipation.

By early afternoon, local florist Karen delivered the bridal bouquets to the bridal suite and the buttonholes to Scott, the founder and CEO of Sunshine Weddings, who was on-site to ensure everything ran smoothly. Shortly after, Rebecca Davidson, the photographer, arrived to start capturing the day’s magical moments.

As final touches were applied, the ceremony area came together beautifully. Fans were placed on every other seat, and the seating arrangement was meticulously set with six seats on either side of the aisle. By mid-afternoon, hair and makeup were completed, and buttonholes, adding a touch of elegance, were distributed to the groom and groomsmen.

Meanwhile, Nano, a Spanish flamenco artist, played ambient guitar music, setting a romantic and festive tone. Scott checked in on Lily, offering reassuring words, and Rebecca captured a touching first-look photo of Lily and her father, Jim.

As the preparations concluded, the stage was perfectly set for an unforgettable wedding ceremony. The meticulous planning and the charming cortijo ensured that Lily and Lewis’s special day would be an unforgettable memory for all.

The Ceremony – At a Rustic Wedding Venue in Malaga

Lily, looking stunning in a sleek satin bridal gown and a long white veil, made her way to the ceremony area on the arm of her father. Accompanied by her bridal party, she walked down an outdoor aisle flanked by towering palm trees. They approached a beautifully decorated wedding area adorned with stands of delicate pink roses, white carnations, baby’s breath, and lush green leaves. Awaiting her was Lewis, looking handsome in an elegant black suit and white shirt.

The ceremony area, set against the picturesque backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea, created a serene and breathtaking scene. In this idyllic setting, Lily and Lewis exchanged their vows. Local English-speaking wedding minister Gareth officiated the heartfelt ceremony, surrounded by 70 of their closest friends and family. The changing colours of the sky enhanced the moment, adding to the romantic atmosphere.

Rebecca, the bridal couple’s chosen wedding photographer, expertly captured each special moment, ensuring that these memories would be preserved for a lifetime.

The Wedding Breakfast – Charming Garden Reception

To the entrance song “Forever” by Chris Brown, guests made their way to a charming poolside area for the wedding breakfast. Each table featured personalised flower arrangements crafted by the skilled local florist, Karen, along with disposable cameras for capturing fun moments throughout the event.

In this idyllic space, guests enjoyed a memorable wedding feast. The starters included patatas bravas, prawn and bacon croquettes, and chorizo and red onion tarts. For the main course, there were three paella options: traditional mixed, vegetarian, and chorizo and chicken. The paella was served table by table from a dedicated station. As the main course concluded, glasses were filled with cava, and the speeches began, starting with the father-of-the-bride.

For dessert, guests were treated to a trio of delicious options: chocolate truffle cake, mojito fruit salad, and white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake.

As the meal wound down and the sun set below the horizon, the festivities began in earnest. Guests gathered in the courtyard to witness the first dance. The DJ played “Angel of Mine” by Alex Goddard under the starlit sky, officially kicking off the part.

The Party – Unforgettable Evening Celebration

Following the meal, an incredible party unfolded, led by a local DJ and sax duo. Their catchy playlist kept everyone grooving until sunrise. A fun photobooth setup added to the evening’s excitement, offering three hours of wedding photobooth hire complete with a personal message on all the printouts. Guests enjoyed a variety of photo backdrops, Boomerang GIFs, and a Magic Mirror, capturing endless memories.

As the sky turned a golden hue in the early hours, enveloping everything in a soft, warm glow, a prearranged transfer service stood by to ensure the safe transportation of the remaining guests to their accommodations in nearby Estepona. This marked the conclusion of a picturesque destination wedding celebration in southern Spain, providing the perfect backdrop for the best day of Lily and Lewis’s lives.

The Day After – Relaxed Beachside Gathering

The following day, Lily and Lewis enjoyed a late lunch with close family at the same beach bar where the pre-wedding party took place. Later in the afternoon, everyone reconvened at the beach for ice cream and a relaxed debrief, reminiscing about the unforgettable celebration and soaking in the beautiful memories of the previous day’s festivities.

Styling Ideas for an Al Fresco Rustic Wedding in Southern Spain

Natural Elements

Embrace the rustic charm of the Spanish countryside by incorporating natural elements into your wedding decor. Opt for wooden tables and chairs adorned with simple, earthy linens. Decorate with fresh greenery, such as olive branches, eucalyptus, and wildflowers, to add a touch of natural beauty to your al fresco celebration. Integrate elements like stoneware vases and woven baskets to enhance the organic feel. Consider using driftwood centrepieces and natural fibre table runners to further accentuate the rustic vibe.

Romantic Lighting

Create a romantic ambiance with soft, glowing lighting throughout your outdoor venue. Hang string lights above your reception area to cast a warm and inviting glow as the sun sets. Incorporate lanterns, candles, and fairy lights into your decor to add an extra layer of romance to your rustic wedding under the stars.

Mediterranean Colours

Draw inspiration from the vibrant colours of the Mediterranean landscape when choosing your wedding colour palette. Opt for warm earth tones like terracotta, sage green, and dusty rose to complement the natural surroundings, and incorporate bright, sun-kissed hues like mustard yellow and deep turquoise to add a playful touch to your decor. Use these colours in your floral arrangements, table settings, and even in your bridal party attire to create a cohesive and visually stunning atmosphere.

Spanish-Inspired Details

Infuse your wedding with authentic Spanish flair by incorporating traditional elements into your styling. Consider using colourful Spanish tiles as table runners or place mats, or incorporate hand-painted ceramic plates into your table settings. Add touches of Spanish culture with flamenco-inspired decor, such as fans, castanets, and vibrant textiles.

Rustic Tablescapes

Create charming rustic tablescapes that reflect the laid-back elegance of the Spanish countryside. Decorate your tables with mismatched vintage china, antique glassware, and delicate floral arrangements in rustic containers like terracotta pots or wooden crates. Add personal touches like handwritten place cards or custom table numbers to make your guests feel truly special.

Al Fresco Dining

Celebrate the beauty of outdoor dining with a relaxed al fresco reception. Set up long banquet-style tables adorned with simple white linens and elegant tableware. Create a casual yet sophisticated atmosphere by serving family-style dishes inspired by the flavours of southern Spain, such as paella, tapas, and grilled seafood. Include local wines and sangria to complement the meal, and consider setting up a dessert table with traditional Spanish sweets like churros and flan.

Bohemian Vibes

Add a bohemian touch to your rustic wedding by incorporating elements such as macrame backdrops, dreamcatchers, and eclectic rugs. Use low seating areas with colourful cushions and pouffes to create cosy lounge spaces for your guests. Mix and match textures and patterns in your decor to achieve a relaxed, boho-chic atmosphere. Floral crowns and barefoot sandals for the bridal party can also enhance the bohemian feel of your wedding.

Floral Installations

Make a statement with lush floral installations that showcase the natural beauty of the Spanish countryside. Create dramatic arches, cascading garlands, and hanging floral chandeliers using seasonal blooms and greenery. Incorporate native flowers like bougainvillaea, oleander, and lavender to add a touch of local charm to your rustic wedding decor. We work with reliable and creative local florists, fluent in English, to ensure your floral vision is perfectly realised.

Cultural Entertainment

Celebrate the rich cultural heritage of southern Spain with traditional entertainment and music. Hire flamenco dancers or Spanish guitarists to perform during your reception, adding an authentic touch of Spanish flair to your al fresco celebration. Encourage guests to join in the fun with interactive activities like salsa dancing or a lively game of Spanish tambourine. Consider a live paella cooking demonstration, as Lily and Lewis did, or a sherry tasting station to further immerse your guests in the local culture.

By integrating these styling ideas, you can create a truly memorable al fresco rustic wedding in southern Spain, blending the region’s natural beauty and cultural richness with your unique vision for the perfect celebration.
