The presence of a live wedding band can instantly change the atmosphere of any venue or event including your wedding reception.
The Costa del Sol is home to some of the best wedding venues in Europe – also home to some very talented musicians and today we get to chat with the frontman from the Dr.No Music Band, perhaps one of the most diverse and unique music bands on the Spanish sunshine coast.
Let’s find out more about the story behind Dr. No…
That’s correct, the iconic Malaga Feria was just about to start and I was called by the ZZ Pub to perform, this establishment always has live music. They had a “caseta” booth at the feria but at that point no band. When I went to speak with the management I was introduced to other musicians from other bands, all of whom had been on the music scene for almost two decades like myself, and we were asked if we could perform together, as a “new” band. This was for an eight-day gig back in 2017. It was all a bit out of the blue and we only had a few weeks to prepare, but we got together, and here we are several years later and the “new” impromptu band isn’t so “new” anymore.
We are a four-piece band formed by: Drummer: Alex Granizo (Jammin ́Dose); Bass: Pablo Fernandez (Julian Maeso, El Kanka…); Guitar and backing vocals: Pablo Màrquez (Jammin`Dose, Malaka Youth..); Lead vocals and guitar: Eric Pozzo (Free Soul Band, Freak Da`Funk, Dry Martina,The Cops, Acoustic Soul…) and we cover the whole Spanish and European territory, if necessary.
I always like to say ‘if we mix, or rather shake in a cocktail shaker, musicians from bands like Jamming Dose, the Free Soul Band or Dry Martina, the result could well be a Vesper Martini, the cocktail that James Bond is best known for.’
That combination is called Dr.No, a band which combines reggae, pop, soul and rock. We have a varied repertoire and a peculiar way of covering it with personality and character.
All the band members have extensive experience, with more than 20 years performing in the Andalusian music scene, representing several other recognised music bands of the region.
The motivation of the dance is usually directly connected to the repertoire and the energy and commitment of the band.
Our repertoire is very varied and has a very classy and danceable tone. Classics such as, “Is this love” or “Could you be loved” (Bob Marley) to “Valery” (Amy Winehouse) or “Titanium” (David Guetta), that never fail to get everyone, even the shyest members of the party grooving. Add to that songs the likes of Sam Cooke, Little Richard, Al Green, Creedence, Maroon Five, Beatles, e.t.c… and everyone has a great time.
Normally our performance lasts about 2 hours.
The 5 songs that stand out the most (among others) are:
Kiss (Prince)
Get Lucky (Daft Punk)
Could You Beloved (Bob Marley)
Get Down On It (Kool & The Gang)
Twist And Shout (The Beatles)
What we love most about performing at weddings is being part of such a special day for a couple and being part of the memory of an unforgettable day for them.
Anecdotes (Thousands) hahaha… But I remember that in the middle of a performance at a wedding, the couple’s friends put the bride, the groom and me on their shoulders and when we were jumping like crazy, the groom’s trousers ripped, exposing a large part of his underwear.
