Creating singular wedding unions for bridal couples in Mallorca…
It’s an absolute pleasure for Sunshine Weddings Spain to be able to chat today with one of Mallorca’s most popular and experienced wedding celebrants, Tracey Kennedy.
I’m originally from a small village in the Welsh valleys but grew up in Sussex. I started working in travel from a young age and have lived in 9 different countries, including Greece, Hong Kong and Thailand. I was living with my family in Mexico when I realised I needed to be closer to ageing parents and our son needed a very high-level tennis coach. Mallorca ticked both those requirements. It took two years of searching for the perfect place and for my husband to get the perfect job, perseverance paid off and we landed here in 2014 with three kids and two rescued street dogs.
I used to be a doula, supporting women through pregnancy, birth and beyond – I was also a counsellor working within women’s sexual health for many years. I seem drawn to helping people at their most private and intimate moments, so becoming a wedding celebrant seemed like a natural fit. Having people trust me during these times is an absolute privilege.
I think it’s very important for couples to trust their celebrant. Celebrants need excellent communication skills such as active listening and to get the best personal stories they need to ask effective questions. I always say to my prospective clients, if after our first interview you wouldn’t invite me home for tea, then you really shouldn’t invite me to your wedding. We can’t all love everyone we meet in life, but this relationship is so personal we all need to feel a special click.
I’m lucky enough to have enjoyed every role I have had, however I would love to have been a singer. Unfortunately, although I’m from the proud singing nation of Wales I can’t hold a note! Please don’t ask me to lead hymns!
I’ve always been a bit sports mad. We’re a tennis playing family, but as I’ve gotten older, I have swapped my tennis racquet for a paddle as the court is smaller so less ground to cover.
We live at the foot of the Tramuntana mountains and there is nothing I like better than hiking in the beautiful countryside that Mallorca offers. When at home we have an open door policy and I love to cook for family and friends.
Tracey Kennedy currently lives in Mallorca, at the foot of the Tramuntana mountains. She arrived to the Spanish island with her family in 2014 after living in Mexico for nearly 10 years where she worked as a wedding celebrant and birth doula. Tracey has always been drawn to helping people celebrate momentous occasions in their lives. Tracey describes herself as relaxed without being flippant and romantic without being soppy.
“Actually, when it comes to love, maybe I am a bit soppy! I am ridiculously happily married to my wonderful husband and Dad to our three children. When I am not working, I enjoy eating fabulous local food, walking in the mountains and playing tennis.” – Tracey Kennedy.
