Wedding Venue Mijas | Beachfront hotel Costa del sol

Back

Nothing says ‘Destination Wedding’ like a sunny ceremony beside the Mediterranean sea, and today we reflect on a beautiful wedding celebrated at a stunning Beach Hotel in Mijas. This luxurious Caribbean-style wedding venue is the epitome of elegance and charm, nestled on the coast of Mijas.

On the second Thursday of June, just a few weeks ago, the lovely Denise and Darren said “I do” at this breathtaking location, directly overlooking the serene Mediterranean waters. With its blend of Spanish luxury and bohemian beach life, the venue provided the perfect setting for their unforgettable day. Let’s take a look at the highlights of their special celebration…

Pre-Wedding Party—in Marbella’s Old Town

The evening before the wedding, Denise and Darren, along with their closest family and friends, kicked off the celebrations with a pre-wedding party at an organic restaurant in Marbella’s Old Town. With just 13 guests in attendance, the intimate gathering provided the perfect opportunity for everyone to relax and enjoy each other’s company before the big day.

The organic restaurant selected by the bridal couple to start their wedding weekend, renowned for its dedication to fresh, organic ingredients, presented a menu that delighted guests with its variety and quality. The warm, rustic ambiance of the restaurant, complemented by the charm of Marbella’s Old Town, provided the backdrop for a memorable evening. Conversations flowed effortlessly over delicious dishes, accompanied by laughter and toasts, creating cherished memories before the main event.

Bridal preparations—Wedding Morning

The morning of the wedding began with Denise and Darren waking up in the luxurious Penthouse Suite at their beachfront venue. Darren headed out early to begin his day, leaving the suite prepared for the bridal preparations ahead.

At 10am, hairdresser Flavia arrived at the bridal suite to begin working on Denise’s hair. Shortly after, makeup artist Eva began her work, ensuring Denise looked stunning for her big day.

The photographer team, The Love Hunters, arrived next. They started with a photo session of Darren and his groomsmen, capturing candid and posed shots as the men prepared for the ceremony. Once done, they moved to the bridal suite, where they took beautiful photos of Denise and her bridesmaids, documenting every moment of the preparation.

Meanwhile, the florist arrived at the bridal suite to drop off the bouquets. The vibrant flowers added a final touch to the bridal party’s attire, enhancing the already festive atmosphere. In the early afternoon, the ceremony area was set up. Six chairs were arranged on either side of the aisle, and twelve cones of petals were placed, ready to be handed out during the signing. After a buzzing morning filled with activity and excitement, it was finally time for the ceremony.

Welcome—Caribbean Style Wedding Venue

As guests began to arrive in the mid-afternoon, they were greeted by a beautifully crafted welcome sign by Michelle from Gorgeous Events at the entrance of the venue. A curated playlist played softly through the hotel, setting a festive and welcoming tone. Sean, Darren’s brother and best man, took charge of guiding guests to the waterfront terrace where the welcome drinks were served. Fourteen bottles of Cava and seventy-two bottles of San Miguel beer were ready, along with plenty of water, ensuring everyone was refreshed and in good spirits.

Meanwhile, Scott, the founder and CEO of Sunshine Weddings, was on-site to ensure everything ran smoothly. He took a moment to check on Denise, offering reassuring words as she prepared for her big moment. This was followed by a poignant first look photo session with her father, capturing the emotional and touching moment before she walked down the aisle.

The Ceremony—Beachfront Hotel

This beachfront setting has become a favorite among brides and grooms over the years. Ceremonies can be held on the waterfront terrace with the serene Mediterranean as a backdrop or in the hotel’s tropical gardens and pool area, both perfect settings for gatherings of around 120 guests.

For Denise and Darren, the waterfront terrace was the chosen location for their ceremony. Minister Natasha Johnson presided over the heartfelt union. As the couple exchanged vows, a carefully selected playlist provided the soundtrack to their love story. Bridesmaids and flower boys delicately scattered rose petals during the signing of the marriage certificate, adding to the romantic (and fun) atmosphere that ended with a petal shower during the recessional.

The ceremony reached its heartwarming conclusion with Calvin Harris’ “I Feel So Close to You Right Now.” This tune set the perfect mood and extended an invitation to all guests to join the couple at the pool area for a celebratory drink.

Drinks by the Pool—Soaking in the Celebration

The Polynesian pool area made for the perfect spot for a refreshing drinks reception. There, guests enjoyed a choice of cava, beers, and water while being entertained by DJ Fuller, who provided a fantastic music set for the one-hour drinks reception, creating an enjoyable and lively atmosphere. Delicious assorted artisan canapés were also served by the pool, allowing guests to indulge in a variety of flavors, including mini burgers, cheese tartlets, salmon tartlets, and chicken mini tacos. During this prelude to the main festivities, the photographer team from Love Hunters captured precious family moments, ensuring that the memories of this day would last a lifetime.

A Waterfront Dinner—Ocean Breezes

Dinner commenced in the early evening with DJ Fuller starting the dinner music. Fuller announced the couple’s entrance with the song “Summer Jam 2003” by The Underdog Project, followed by heartfelt speeches, beginning with the father of the bride.

As the sun began to set, dinner was served on the waterfront terrace with the soothing sound of the sea as the background. Guests enjoyed starters of crab & shrimp salad with radish and curried mayo or a leek & cheese parcel with tomato compote and chive sauce. For the main course, they had a choice between breast of chicken supreme with sautéed mushroom supreme sauce or pan-fried fillet of Galician beef with aubergine puree, baby carrots, bordelaise sauce, and fondant potatoes, with a vegetarian option available for all courses. The delightful dessert course featured oven-baked chocolate fondant with raspberry coulis and ice cream, and a trio of crème brulee, perfectly capping off the evening meal and marked the transition to a night filled with celebration and dancing.

As the meal ended, a fun photo booth was set up, and cake baker Alyson delivered the cake—a single-tier vanilla cake with fresh raspberries—along with two macaron towers in different flavors. Late in the evening, the newlyweds took pre-sunset photos on the beachfront, capturing beautiful moments against the backdrop of the setting sun.

Dance the Night Away—Grooves, Rhythms, and Endless Celebration

With the formalities behind them, it was time to let loose and dance the night away. The party kicked off at the hotel’s veranda small terrace where DJ Fuller set the mood with his beats. The newlyweds shared their first dance to “Just Hold On, We’re Going Home” by Drake, a moment that set the tone for the night.

As the evening progressed, guests were treated to a late-night snack of cake and macaroons. In addition to the vanilla cake with fresh raspberries, there was a selection of delicious cupcakes: Madagascan vanilla filled with strawberry jam and vanilla buttercream, Madagascan vanilla with fresh raspberries and white chocolate buttercream, lemon with homemade lemon curd and vanilla buttercream, cookies and cream, and sticky toffee with salted caramel buttercream.

The festivities continued into the night, with guests dancing and celebrating Denise and Darren’s beautiful union until the clock struck midnight. Coaches were then at the ready to safely transport guests to their respective accommodations, concluding a perfect wedding day by the beach.

A huge thank you to Denise and Darren for trusting and sharing your magical day with us. It was our pleasure at Sunshine Weddings to help bring your wedding vision to life. On behalf of our entire team, we wholeheartedly wish you both the very best in luck, health, and a future filled with happiness together.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to The Love Hunters for capturing these exceptionally fun and incredible images of this beautiful celebration.
