The Venue

With large expanses of grass, tropical flowers, fruit trees and the most breathtaking views, this typical Spanish Hacienda, just a quick ten minute car ride from the beach in a location surrounded by beautiful countryside, makes the ideal location for outdoor weddings and is one of the most popular venues for bridal couples looking to get married on the Costa del Sol.

A traditional Spanish hacienda, Costa del Sol.

The traditional Spanish architecture and beautiful courtyards belonging to this hacienda give this venue a classic and authentic appeal. Additionally, the hacienda’s ten en-suite bedrooms, which easily sleep 24 guests, makes the perfect base for you and your loved ones to live an unforgettable experience.

The Day

Everyone was so excited for the villa wedding in Mijas, and finally, on a glorious day last April, it was time for the magic to unfold. Music from a state-of-the-art sound system serenaded the guests as they arrived and were invited to a refreshing drink on the lush front lawn.

Just before the ceremony, Scott Gibbons (wedding planner and founder of Sunshine Weddings Spain) took a moment to visit the bridal suite and talk to Vanessa and her bridal party through the next stages which always helps to ease any nerves.

Meanwhile the guests, following a moment of relaxed chatter, laughter and easily mingling on the lawn, were invited to move to the upper side garden where the magical ceremony, in an unparalleled setting of lush, sun-kissed grounds surrounded by spectacular mountain vistas, took place.

The emotional and joy-filled ceremony, led by Minister Gareth, was followed up with a true celebration of the couple’s love in the most fairy-tale atmosphere with copious amounts of food and drink, starting with a generous selection of cocktails and hot and cold canapes including: Italian fried cheese with marmalade sauce, canapé spoons of paprika, garlic and chilli prawns and garlic and herb bruschetta with fresh basil and baby tomatoes.

The wedding guests then moved to the back garden where the wedding breakfast was served against the backdrop of a stunning turquoise pool, fringed with the vast and lush green gardens of the property. A delicious meal with pots of chicken parfait with red onion marmalade for starters followed by a choice of roasted chicken breast with Spanish seasonal roots or market cod with toasted garlic creamy aioli sauce, offering vegetarian options in a separate section for those guests who preferred a meat-free menu.

A heavenly meal finished with an equally heavenly sweet churros rolled in cinnamon sugar and a hot chocolate sauce for dipping.

Then, below the gently swaying palms and amidst colour pops of flowers came the all-important speeches and the cutting of the buttercream swirl finished wedding cake, providing a moment of charming tradition to the evening.

The whole day ran smoothly thanks also to a five hour babysitting service with Costa del Sol based childminder, Shelly, who did a superb job of entertaining the little ones and allowing the adult guests plenty of uninterrupted moments throughout the evening.

Vanessa and Craig rounded off the evening entertainment for their nearest and dearest in epic style with a four hour dance session at the hands of DJ Dave James, and fortunately, thanks to the Hacienda’s location, just-off-the-beaten-track in Mijas, there were no restrictions regarding night-time entertainment… allowing newlyweds and their guests to dance beneath the Spanish stars until the small hours.

The whole of the team at Sunshine Weddings would also like to take this opportunity to wish Vanessa and Craig many happy years of marriage together. It was wonderful to play a small part in their special day.
