Morning Preparations: Tradition and Anticipation
The day began quietly across two locations along the Costa del Sol. Emma prepared with her bridesmaids and family at Alcazaba Beach in Estepona, while Charlie spent the morning with his closest friends and family at a nearby villa in San Pedro.
As hair and makeup preparations unfolded, there was a noticeable sense of anticipation throughout the morning. Jewish weddings are often filled with deeply emotional family moments, and this feeling carried through every part of the preparations.

At Emma and Charlie’s wedding, the Sunshine Weddings Spain team were on site from early morning, overseeing preparations as the Chuppah was set up. A Chuppah was positioned beside the grand staircase overlooking the estate’s Neptune Garden, with sand-coloured carpeting and floral styling.
Nearby, tables were arranged for the Ketubah signing, ceremonial wine, and the traditional glass used later in the ceremony. Every detail was planned to ensure the sacred traditions of the day were honoured in a setting filled with Andalusian sunshine.
Welcoming Guests: A Celebration Begins
Guests arrived during the afternoon to welcome drinks beside the fountains and upper terraces of the estate.
As they mingled beneath white parasols sipping sangria, beer, and soft drinks, the atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and full of excitement. Family and friends had travelled from across the world to celebrate Emma and Charlie, creating the unmistakable feeling of togetherness that defines so many Jewish weddings.
At the same time, a more intimate pre-wedding tradition was beginning nearby on the lawn in front of the Blue Room — the Tish.
The Tish: A Cherished Jewish Wedding Tradition
The Tish is one of the most fun and meaningful moments before a Jewish wedding ceremony. Traditionally led by the groom and attended by close male family members and friends, it is a gathering filled with blessings, singing, storytelling, and celebration before the ceremony begins.
Charlie joined family and friends on the shaded lawn where whisky, mixers, crisps, and refreshments had been arranged beneath parasols to keep guests cool in the Spanish afternoon heat.
Rabbi Haim led the gathering as laughter, conversation, and music filled the garden. The atmosphere felt intimate and emotional all at once — a moment of reflection and celebration before the formal ceremony.
As the Tish concluded, the men made their way directly toward the ceremony area while guests from the welcome terraces began moving toward the Chuppah overlooking the beautiful Neptune Garden.
The Bedeken: An Emotional Moment Before the Ceremony
One of the most moving Jewish wedding traditions is the Bedeken, during which the groom veils the bride before the ceremony.
The Bedeken itself symbolises modesty, respect, and the groom’s commitment to marrying not simply for outward beauty, but for the person beneath the veil. It is also rooted in ancient Jewish tradition and often becomes one of the most emotional moments of the day.
As guests waited quietly beside the Chuppah, Emma and Charlie shared this intimate ritual before preparing for the processional.
The Chuppah Ceremony: A Sacred Union
The ceremony space beside the grand staircase looked breathtaking beneath the late afternoon light.
At the centre stood the Chuppah — one of the most recognisable symbols of a Jewish wedding. Open on all sides, the Chuppah represents the home the couple will build together, welcoming family, friends, and future generations into their lives. For Emma and Charlie’s ceremony, the Chuppah was beautifully styled with soft flowing white draping and abundant white florals, including hydrangeas, orchids, roses, and cascading greenery. The structure itself felt elegant yet organic, perfectly complementing the natural surroundings of the estate and the relaxed beauty of the Andalusian setting. Positioned on a raised platform with neutral carpeting, it created a stunning focal point framed by tall trees and gardens beyond.
The procession began with Charlie entering alongside his parents, followed by members of the bridal party descending the dramatic staircase into Neptune Garden. Finally, Emma appeared with her parents, making her way toward the Chuppah as guests rose to their feet. Charlie wore a light cream three-piece suit with a pale tie and boutonnière, while Emma’s elegant off-the-shoulder gown, cathedral-length veil, and cascading white orchid bouquet perfectly suited the timeless styling of the ceremony.
Surrounded by loved ones beneath the open Andalusian sky, the couple stood together under the Chuppah while Rabbi Haim guided the ceremony through prayers, blessings, and traditions.
The ceremony incorporated several important Jewish rituals, including blessings over wine and the signing of the Ketubah — the Jewish marriage contract that symbolises the couple’s commitment to one another and their shared responsibilities within marriage.
The atmosphere throughout the ceremony was emotional. Family and friends listened as prayers were spoken in the gardens, with fountains and birdsong providing a natural background sound around the estate.
The Breaking of the Glass and “Mazel Tov!”
One of the most iconic moments of any Jewish wedding came at the conclusion of the ceremony.
As the ceremony reached its final blessing, Charlie performed the breaking of the glass beneath his foot — a symbolic act representing both the fragility of life and the importance of remembering history even during moments of great joy.
The instant the glass shattered, guests erupted into cheers of “Mazel Tov!” while petals showered across the aisle and the newlyweds embraced beneath the Chuppah.
The energy shifted instantly from emotional ceremony to upbeat celebration as music began and guests followed the couple into the Neptune Garden for cocktail hour.
Cocktail Hour: Music, Margaritas, and Mediterranean Elegance
Following the ceremony, guests gathered in the Neptune Garden for an elegant drinks reception filled with music, cocktails, and celebration.
Cava flowed alongside Aperol spritzes, margaritas, rosé wine, beer, and soft drinks while roaming musicians performed throughout the gardens. The atmosphere felt effortlessly Mediterranean — warm air, golden light, flowing fountains, and the joyful sounds of guests reconnecting and celebrating together.
Canapés were served continuously throughout the reception while family photographs took place around the estate’s terraces and walkways.
One of the most beautiful aspects of Jewish weddings is how naturally they balance meaningful tradition with fun-filled moments, and Emma and Charlie’s reception showcased that perfectly.
Israeli Dancing: The Energy of the Celebration
As guests moved into the main garden for dinner, there was a brief pause before the newlyweds made their grand entrance to energetic Israeli music. Guests were then immediately invited onto the dancefloor for traditional Israeli dancing, circling and celebrating around the couple. The energy was electric from the very first song.
Jewish weddings are renowned for their incredible dancefloor atmosphere, and this celebration was no exception. Friends and family danced together in circles while music echoed throughout the gardens beneath the evening sky.
The upbeat vibes and connection on the dancefloor created one of the most unforgettable parts of the entire wedding day.
Dining Beneath the Stars
Following the dancing, guests returned to their beautifully styled tables for dinner beside the fountains.
Long banquet tables and elegant round tables filled the main garden beneath soft lighting and lush greenery. Tequila bottles placed across selected tables added a fun and playful element to the evening, while flowing wine service and sparkling water ensured guests remained refreshed throughout the celebration.
Heartfelt speeches from family and friends brought moments of laughter, emotion, and reflection before the band once again encouraged guests back onto the dancefloor between courses.
As the sun began to set over Sotogrande, Emma and Charlie slipped away briefly for sunset portraits around the estate — capturing quiet moments together before returning to continue celebrating with their guests.
Hora Dancing and the Evening Party
As the evening progressed, the celebration only became more energetic.
The couple shared their first dance beneath the open Spanish sky before guests flooded the dancefloor once again for hours of music and celebration.
Traditional Hora-style dancing brought incredible energy to the evening, with guests lifting the atmosphere — and occasionally the couple themselves — into moments of pure fun and laughter.
Live music, DJ sets, and flowing cocktails created an unforgettable atmosphere, closing a magical day of tradition and celebration under the stars.
