Tell us a bit about your journey in becoming a wedding hair & makeup expert, how did it all start?
I came late to the world of professional makeup and hair after never feeling that real sense of fulfilment I wanted from my career. I knew that the empowerment of the amazing women I saw everywhere around me was what really motivated me, but it wasn’t until I connected this with my love of all things makeup and styling that I had the lightbulb moment that led me to the best decision I’ve ever made. I sought out training with Kristina Gasperas who in my opinion provides training in the most sophisticated and opulent of bridal looks. From this I developed my own signature style of natural understated glamour.
What sparks your creativity more, hair or makeup? Do you have a preference?
Once upon a time I might have said makeup (as training in hair came second for me). Nowadays though I really couldn’t choose, I love both!
If a bride is unable to do a makeup trial before the wedding day, what do you suggest?
There is no true substitute for seeing your chosen hair and makeup look on you before the big day comes, but when a trial absolutely isn’t possible I always allow extra time on the day to allow us to talk through things properly. I will always ask for inspiration images beforehand and I also offer an online consultation service.
Any special moments that you can share with us about your experience working behind the scenes on a wedding morning?
I’m a really social person, so getting to be a part of the energy and excitement on the day of a wedding is always special. Of course, you also can’t beat those final moments when the bride is dressed and ready to leave the ceremony and we are doing final touches to make sure she looks absolutely perfect.
What inspires you?
Quite simply, women inspire me! In today’s world we are expected to be all things – daughter, friend, partner, mother, colleague, household manager, business person. Women are a force to be reckoned with.
What tips do you have for keeping the hair and makeup in place all day in the Spanish heat?
Be open to the use of hair extensions (these help to support your own hair to stay in your chosen style) and be prepared to have to maintain your makeup with regular powder touch ups.
What makeup and hair products do you use?
I use a really wide variety of brands but my only stipulation is that they are cruelty free. In my kit you will see the likes of Hourglass, Urban Decay, Charlotte Tilbury, Kevin Murphy and Ouai, but no MAC for example.
Favourite job to date?
I can’t possibly pick favourites but it’s always nice to be made to feel part of the day and part of the girl gang!
What’s the strangest thing you have been asked to do on a wedding day?
I once had to cover some quite significant bruising on the groom’s face after he had unfortunately dropped a barbell on himself at the gym!
What is next for you?
I’d love to grow my business into the bridal beauty education field.
Coffee or tea?
Coffee is life. No more to be said.
Cat or dog?
I love both, but if I had to choose it would be cats.
Sea or mountains?
Another tough one, but I think mountains!
