Destination wedding photographer Spain | Photojournalistic wedding photography in Malaga

Back

Photojournalistic wedding photography is about telling the true story of the wedding day, photography that shows things the way they really are and many bridal couples look for this quality in the photographer for their magical day.

Wedding photojournalists are photographic storytellers and today we are delighted to chat with Jesús Mérida, a talented Wedding photojournalist based in Malaga, Spain.

Hi Jesus, thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to join us today, please tell us a bit more about the story behind your photography passion, how did it start?

I’ve always been passionate about photography, though my beginnings were more related to advertising rather than weddings, setting up my own photography business as an advertising photographer in Madrid many years ago. Now, though I specialise in weddings, I still do campaigns for agencies here in Malaga.

How long have you been shooting weddings?

In 2013 I moved to Malaga where I branched into taking interior pics for real estate and hotels, and it was in 2013 that I also started shooting weddings. So it’s been a decade now of capturing magical moments for many beautiful bridal couples.

How would you describe your style?

My style falls under documentary or photojournalism style. This type of photography avoids any kind of planned or prepared poses, rather it is a much more natural capture of images. I will blend into the background and not interfere in the scenes, leaving moments to be real.

But though I blend into the background, I’m constantly alert to everything that is happening. Not only around the bridal couple, but also with their guests in order to capture the most emotional images of every moment of the wedding day.

What do you most love about your job when working at weddings?

I really enjoy the editing process and making the final story of the day. I love making the slideshow for the couple from beginning to end, covering the full story of the day in photojournalism style.

Any advice for those camera shy bridal couples?

Photojournalistic wedding photography is actually ideal for camera shy bridal couples as it avoids the typical wedding poses. I prefer to take advantage of moments when the bride and groom are alone taking each other. Those pictures are gold. So, fortunately, camera shy or not, this is something bridal couples don’t have to worry about

What should a couple look for when choosing their wedding photographer?

Someone they feel comfortable with, and if they are looking for real memories, without filters and unposed pictures, I would hope that they would choose me!

How many photos do you deliver? And how long does it take to edit and deliver the final images?

After the wedding we deliver 600 hundred pics in high resolution quality in a nice wooden box and it takes us about one month to deliver the final images.
