A destination wedding abroad conjures up all types of dreamy, swoon-worthy locations for you and your loved one to discover, filled with soul-stirring views and spellbinding sunsets.
For those Romeos looking to charm their Juliets, the beautiful city of Malaga is full of romantic nooks, unforgettable views, natural beauty and wonderful landscape, the perfect place to say “I do” or to pop the question.
In fact, Malaga is famed for its diverse coastline, monuments, architecture, parks and of course history, all spread between the majestic mountains which surround the city and the Mediterranean Sea.
So if you are planning on a destination wedding in Malaga and want to explore these romantic nooks as newlyweds honeymooning in the area, or thinking of surprising your loved one with a romantic getaway to pop the question, check out Sunshine Weddings Spain’s top five most romantic sunset locations in Malaga.
Number one on our list is the closest to Malaga city centre and quite easy to get to. The Gibralfaro viewpoint, set on a hill in the historic center of Malaga offers the most emblematic panoramas of Malaga overlooking the bay, the bullring, much of the coastline and the Mijas Mountains in the background.
A tour around the Gibralfaro castle, a 14th century fortification at the top of the mountain is also a possibility to combine with an amazing sunset and make your stay in Malaga truly memorable.
Pocopan is a viewpoint on one of the highest peaks in the Montes de Malaga (mountains of Malaga), and offers a panoramic outlook of this protected environment. The sheer magnitude of the view spans across most of the mountain ranges that belong to the province of Málaga.
A romantic viewpoint that is accessible by car with only a short section to be done by foot at the end of the route which will take all would-be romanticists to the top of the mountain.
Number three on the list, the beach next to Baños del Carmen, has to be one of the best beach views in town. While watching the sunset from any beach in Malaga is amazing, we think this one has something special. With no buildings to obstruct the view, you’ll have an amazing vista of the beach, Malaga, and the mountains in the back while the sun goes down, bathing everything in a fiery golden hue.
This spot is easily accessible by bus, car and bicycle. And if you want to chill out with a Spanish cocktail in hand or enjoy live music, you have the beach restaurante, El Balneario, right next door.
From Monte San Anton, you can enjoy a sunset with the best panorama of the entire city. This romantic hideout is, however, one for hiking enthusiasts, as despite being able to access the area by car, you still need to add another 30-40 minutes hike until you reach the top, the Cruz en el Monte San Anton.
The breathtaking view of the entire city and surrounding mountains and coastline makes the trek worth it. You also have the advantage of it being quite a secluded spot, perfect for couples looking to head off the grid, cuddle up, and reconnect.
And last, but not least on our list is the botanical garden in Malaga, perfect for visiting with the kids or spending the day exploring its exotic plants and history and when the sun goes down, head to the historical Gazebo, which has a beautiful lookout over the city. There you can enjoy the view on a bench, cosy up with your loved one and overlook the city as the sun goes down, ending another beautiful day in paradise.
