A sun-kissed Marbella wedding celebration

Back

There are weddings that feel wonderfully relaxed and well organised from the very beginning, where every moment seems to fall into place naturally. Today’s featured bridal couple, the lovely Abbie and Adam, enjoyed a Marbella wedding that was very much this: a beautiful celebration filled with family, friends, music, great food and plenty of time to simply enjoy being together.

Their chosen wedding venue was a private historic residence surrounded by extensive landscaped gardens and sweeping views towards the Mediterranean, providing everything they needed for a sophisticated destination wedding in Spain. From the quiet moments of the morning through to dancing late into the night, the day moved smoothly between intimate, emotional moments and lively celebrations.

With the bridal couple and their closest friends and family staying together, the wedding day began in the most relaxed way possible, with Abbie and Adam waking up together in the bridal suite. Rather than beginning the day apart, they were able to share those first hours of their wedding morning before the house gradually came to life around them.

As breakfast was served for the bridal party and groom’s party, the excitement of the day began to build. With preparations underway and everyone together under one roof, there was plenty of time for those important pre-wedding moments before the celebrations officially began.

Wedding Morning Bridal Preps

Breakfast was an important part of the morning, with the bridal party enjoying their first meal of the day before the preparations began. There was no need to rush. The villa offered plenty of space for everyone to settle into the day, with the tone of the day gradually shifting from the relaxed pace of breakfast to the excitement of getting ready.

Hair and make-up preparations began in the bridal suite, with stylist Lucy Pardoe creating Abbie’s wedding-day look. Having the bridal party together in the villa meant the morning became part of the celebration itself, with plenty of opportunity for conversation, laughter, all beautifully captured by the wonderful destination wedding photographer Talia from Thoroughly Gorgeous.

Meanwhile, the groom’s party enjoyed breakfast of their own, giving Adam and his friends time together before the formalities of the afternoon began.

Outside, preparations for the celebration continued under the expert care of the Sunshine Weddings Spain team, who were onsite overseeing and coordinating the day. The dining area was cleared and prepared for later, while the ceremony and reception spaces were carefully set up by the wedding team and suppliers.

The villa itself provided a beautiful backdrop throughout the preparations, with its historic character, traditional details and Mediterranean offering a natural backdrop throughout the day. The different outdoor spaces also made it easy for the celebrations to move smoothly from one part of the day to the next.

As the afternoon approached, the pace began to pick up. The bridal bouquet and flowers from Deseos arrived at the bridal suite, adding another unmistakable reminder that the ceremony was getting closer. At the same time, the final details were being put into place across the property. The pool area was closed ahead of the ceremony, allowing the focus to remain firmly on the wedding itself, and the catering preparations also began, with the catering team arriving to set up for the reception and dinner.

Meanwhile, the bridal party completed their hair and make-up, while the groom began his own preparations before joining his groomsmen for photographs with Talia. The courtyard provided the setting for a series of relaxed photographs with his friends, capturing the excitement and anticipation before the ceremony.

One particularly special moment followed when Adam shared a first look with his mother. It was a quieter pause in an otherwise increasingly busy afternoon and one of those personal moments that gave the wedding its emotional depth.

The bridal party gathered, final checks were made and celebrant Debbie arrived ahead of the ceremony. Laura Carter was also ready with her music, providing an instrumental soundtrack as guests began to arrive.

Welcome Drinks and the Build-Up to the Ceremony

Before taking their seats, guests were welcomed with sangria and flavoured lemon water, accompanied by ambient music.

It was an opportunity for everyone to catch up and settle into the afternoon while enjoying the surroundings. With the Mediterranean landscape and mature gardens providing the backdrop, guests had time to take in the setting before the ceremony began.

After thirty minutes of welcome drinks, the bar closed, the music changed and the wedding party took their positions at the front of the ceremony area. Celebrant Debbie invited the guests to stand, ready for Abbie’s entrance.

An Intimate Outdoor Ceremony

The ceremony took place on a raised stone terrace surrounded by mature trees and greenery, with a curved white balustrade framing the space and views across the valley beyond. White floral arrangements were placed along the balustrade and around the ceremony area, adding a simple touch of decoration while keeping the focus on the natural setting.

Against this backdrop, Abbie made her entrance to join Adam for the ceremony. Wearing an elegant strapless white gown with a full skirt and long veil, she looked every inch the bride, while Adam wore a light-coloured suit with a white shirt and dark bow tie.

With their closest family and friends seated around the ceremony area, Abbie and Adam exchanged their vows with celebrant Debbie leading the ceremony. Laura Carter provided the music, with her instrumental playlist adding to the atmosphere as the couple made their promises to one another.

The ceremony was personal and relaxed, with the couple surrounded by those closest to them. After the vows, Abbie and Adam signed the register before preparing to make their way back down the aisle as newlyweds.

Laura then handed out petals to guests, ready for the couple’s exit. As Abbie and Adam walked back down the aisle, their guests followed them towards the courtyard, where the newlyweds were greeted with a celebratory petal throw and a fun dip kiss.

With the formalities over, it was time to celebrate.

Drinks, Canapés and Music in the Courtyard

Cava, wines, beers, water and sangria were served as guests gathered in the courtyard. Personalised napkins added a thoughtful detail to the bar area, while Laura Carter began her live set.

The courtyard was an ideal setting for this part of the wedding. With its Moorish influences and intimate atmosphere, it provided a completely different feel from the ceremony space while keeping everyone together.

Cold and hot canapés were served as guests mingled, allowing Abbie and Adam time to enjoy the first moments of married life without immediately moving into the formal dinner. This was also when photographer Talia captured family photographs, bringing together the couple with their parents and loved ones.

Away from the formal photographs, there was plenty of opportunity for the newlyweds to simply enjoy themselves. After the anticipation of the ceremony, the drinks reception gave everyone time to relax, talk and take in the setting.

Dinner as the Sun Began to Set

As the drinks reception drew to a close, guests were gradually guided towards the dining area. The transition was carefully managed so that the celebration never felt interrupted. Music continued in the dinner space as guests found their seats, while Abbie and Adam took a moment to enjoy some of the canapés themselves before being formally introduced.

Best man Matt took on the introduction, welcoming everyone to the dinner and signalling the beginning of another important part of the evening – the speeches.

The father of the groom spoke first, followed by Adam himself and then the best man. Together, the speeches brought humour, affection and a few emotional moments to the table, giving the couple and their guests the chance to reflect on the people and relationships that had brought them all together. With the speeches complete, dinner began.

The villa’s outdoor dining terrace provided an elegant yet relaxed setting for the meal, with the surrounding countryside creating a lovely Mediterranean backdrop. A long table was dressed with rustic details and overhead fairy lights, adding a warm and relaxed feel as the evening continued.

As dinner progressed, Abbie and Adam were able to slip away briefly for photographs before sunset. Away from the dinner table and their guests, the couple had some time together as newlyweds while Talia captured them in the soft evening light. The gardens, architecture and surrounding views provided plenty of natural backdrops without the couple needing to leave the property.

Back at dinner, dessert was followed by another of the evening’s highlights – the cava tower.

With guests gathered around, Abbie and Adam enjoyed the moment together before everyone was guided back towards the courtyard. The bar reopened for the evening and guests gathered once again, ready for the first dance and the start of the party.

The First Dance and a Night of Celebration

At 9.30pm, Abbie and Adam took to the floor for their first dance as husband and wife. After such a full day, it was a chance for the couple to pause once more and have a moment that belonged entirely to them.

The first dance opened the party, with guests joining the couple on the dance floor as the evening continued. The courtyard provided an atmospheric setting for the celebration, with the warm Spanish evening and historic architecture creating the perfect backdrop for dancing beneath the night sky.

For a destination wedding, this is often one of the most anticipated parts of the day: when the formalities are finished, shoes become optional, the bar is open and everyone can simply enjoy themselves.

As the night continued, late-night food was served to keep everyone fuelled for the final hours of the party. Sliders and churros provided a delicious late-night combination, bringing a taste of Spanish indulgence to the end of the celebration.

The music and bar continued into the early hours, giving guests plenty of time to dance, catch up and make the most of the evening.

By the time the music finally came to an end, Abbie and Adam had enjoyed a wedding day that had managed to balance all the elements that make a destination wedding in Spain so appealing: beautiful surroundings, exceptional food, live music, family celebrations and plenty of time outdoors.
