Mallorca is a picture-postcard destination wedding location, home to breathtaking virgin beaches and uncounted secret coves, forests, and rocky mountains and it’s not uncommon for people to dream of their wedding on such a paradiscal island, rich in natural beauty and captivating history.

Whether you prefer to celebrate your magical day on an idyllic beach, in a lavish villa, a rustic finca or surrounded by majestic mountains, this island has it all and the team at Sunshine Weddings Spain are always at hand to help brides and grooms find their dream wedding venue at Mallorca’s most exclusive locations.

And there, in the heart of Mallorca, in a stunning, classical Spanish finca surrounded by verdant lawns, the elegant wedding couple, Sophie and Rob, recently tied the knot.

We caught up with the bride, Sophie, for her thoughts on their divine day of celebrations.

Why Mallorca and what did you most love about the island?

We chose the island of Mallorca as it’s a place we’ve visited together since we met. We absolutely love Palma, the cathedral and all its beauty, so it felt right to choose to have our wedding there. As soon as we saw Finca Son Mir, we knew it was where we always dreamed of marrying, and despite the obstacles that Covid-19 threw in our way, we didn’t give up on that dream and knew we’d get there one day!

We’d also be lying if we didn’t say we were sold on the thought of an extended honeymoon stay on the island with copious amounts of Sangria!

What made you choose Son Mir, a 17th-century Mallorcan manor house?

What’s not to love? The moment we stepped foot inside the grounds of Son Mir it felt like a dream. The grounds, the olive and lemon trees – everything made us feel at home in Mallorca. There were so many different parts of Son Mir to suit the individual needs of your wedding party and preferences, which made it even better to tailor to what we wanted. The natural beauty and flowers meant the venue felt already decorated. Without doubt, the most beautiful, intimate setting we could have wished for.

Your wedding was originally booked for last summer, 2020, unfortunately the outbreak of a global pandemic meant that it couldn’t go ahead as planned. Tell us a bit more about that experience and how you stayed positive, despite the ever-changing rules and restrictions, both in Spain and in the UK.

Having a wedding planned during Covid was naturally, not something we would ever have expected or imagined. At times it was very stressful and heightened by the fact we live in the UK and our wedding was planned abroad. The uncertainty that came with Covid made everything very difficult and trying to keep up with two differing government guidelines was even harder! Scott and Maia and the team at Sunshine Weddings Spain made all of the stress so much easier to deal with – they were always there at the end of the phone or email and we honestly can’t put into words how grateful we are.

They made postponing back in 2020 as pain free as possible, they dealt with all of our suppliers for us and constantly had our backs. They stuck by us when we decided we simply didn’t want to postpone again this Summer, 2021, even when things were looking once again very doubtful and when we ourselves thought we were crazy for trying to go ahead!

Our persistence and their guidance paid off as we managed to have our wedding during the 3-week period the UK placed the Balearic islands on their ‘Green list’. Without Scott and Maia, I can hands down say our wedding in Mallorca would not have happened. I would recommend them to anyone who asked and they truly went above and beyond for us in so many ways.

This rural wedding venue provides a sophisticated blend of country, vintage, and ethereal wedding styles.

We’ve now been together over 6 years (and married 2 months!) And what a journey we’ve been on to finally get the wedding of our dreams! We wouldn’t change anything for the world and feel so incredibly lucky to have finally experienced the wedding we always hoped for.

Sunshine Weddings Spain, our photographer Ana Adriana, my hair & makeup artist Laura Gisbert and our caterers, Fosh, were all extraordinary and made our special day all that better for being a part of it.

We would recommend a wedding in Mallorca to everyone and couldn’t love our beautiful venue, Finca Son Mir, anymore!

A huge thanks also to the super talented Ana Adriana for the use of these stunning images.
