With careful planning, you can have the perfect kid-friendly destination wedding in Spain.
As the destination wedding industry picks up after covid, more and more couples are happily welcoming children to their celebrations, and, as it isn’t always possible for wedding guests to leave their kids with family or friends before travelling abroad, it’s always a good idea to include children in your wedding planning, making your destination wedding perfect for everyone.
Since most couples and guests choose to stay a few extra days for a destination wedding, one-day excursions are increasingly popular, especially for those travelling with young children.
The Costa del Sol has a wide range of family-friendly activities, excursions, parks and cultural activities you can enjoy whilst you are here and today we take a look at just a handful to give you an idea of what you can expect on this sunny coast of Spain.
This is the largest wildlife park on the Costa del Sol. There the animals live in liberty, recreating their natural habitat – at this wildlife park you can see over 2000 animals from every continent roaming in semi-freedom including: lions, rhinos, giraffes, cheetahs, red pandas and meerkats.
If you’re getting hitched anywhere near Benalmadena, a visit to Paloma Park, a 200,000m2 park located in the centre of town, is a must-visit. The park boasts beautiful gardens as well as a large lake where kids can feed the fish and turtles that habitat there, as well as other animals, such as Peacocks, hens, chickens and rabbits which also roam free through the park. It’s free to get into the Park, a space where plenty of climbing frames and slides for the little ones to play on can be found too.
The largest water park on the Costa del Sol, Aqualand, located in Torremolinos, offers a superb selection of thrilling water slides, including the Kamikazee—one of the highest slides in Europe. The popular waterpark also offers some first-rate restaurants, bars and sunbathing areas for all to enjoy.
The Costa’s longest-running amusement park, Tivoli World, located in Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmádena, is a must-visit for those coming out with kids. It is the only theme park on the Costa del Sol and has more than 40 attractions for the whole family, including a great variety of fun rides, daily live music and dance shows, as well as an ample selection of restaurants and bars.
For those looking for some cultural activities and excursions, the Caves of Nerja are one of Spain’s most popular and spectacular historical sites. The underground caves stretch for almost 5 km and are home to the world’s largest stalagmite, a 32 metre high column, as well as prehistoric cave paintings.
So, while couples are free to organise as many tapas tours, wine tastings and catamaran cruises as they’d like, it’s thoughtful to also provide an option for a family-friendly outing too.
All our childcare providers do a great job at keeping the little ones entertained with a range of activities including: face painting, arts & crafts, races and balloon modelling. We work with candy-makers and even a grammy award winner, where live entertainment, hula dancers and plenty of candyfloss are always a hit.
For children under two it’s always an idea for the bridal couple to think about hiring professional babysitters, (again we work with several that we can recommend).
Planning ahead for the younger members of the wedding party means providing an amazing celebration for young and old, and everlasting memories for all.
