There is nothing more enjoyable than planning a wedding in Spain for a couple that bring with them a mix of backgrounds and traditions – such as the fantastic romantic villa wedding in the south of Spain that Sunshine Weddings organized for Genevieve from Chicago and her fiance Barry from Ireland.
Barry and Gen were nearly childhood sweethearts in Dublin, until they were separated by two different continents and their summer love had to end. But it was clearly written in the stars, as when Barry’s acquired his Visa to work in the USA in 2003, they met up again and fell madly in love. Gen then followed him back to the emerald isles where they set up home and they subsequently got engaged.
Because they have friends and family from all around the world, the couple decided they would have their big day abroad somewhere hot. They had already been invited to a friend’s wedding in Nerja, a pretty Spanish town to the East of Malaga, so they took the opportunity to use that time to look into ideas for their own big day location. And what better destination than the sunny Costa del Sol? So after agreeing on a summer wedding the following year, they came out to meet the Sunshine Weddings team and start the fun task of hunting for the perfect venue.
Choosing a venue can be a pretty daunting task for most wedding couples as the Costa del Sol offers all you need in a venue, from rustic old castles to modern five-star hotels‘…and everything in between. As we spoke to them in more detail it became clear that their ideal venue would be somewhere where all their guests could stay together and have a wedding that could also be a fun get-away with their nearest and dearest.
And that’s when we walked into Hacienda San Jose and they fell in love all over again. But this time with Spain’s best kept wedding venue secret!
Hacienda San Jose boasts stunning gardens set in the tranquil Andalucian mountains five minutes from the beach. The private villa has a pretty pool area, internal patios, bedrooms larger than most Honeymoon suites and is only half an hour from Malaga airport. With a combination of having the option of being in a self catering villa but with the luxury of quality hotel service, and enough rooms to sleep up to 25 guests, it was the ideal place for Gen and Barry to celebrate their wedding and stay close to their friends and family. With the location and venue decided on, the next step was to choose the suppliers to make Gen and Barry’s visions into a reality. Find out in Part 2 what decor the couple chose, what happened on their wedding day and why Hacienda San Jose was the perfect venue for their special celebrations…
