For over twenty years Sunshine Weddings Spain has specialised in finding perfect wedding venues for hundreds of bridal couples, alongside planning everything down to the smallest detail of our couples’ special day, so when Becky and Ryan reached out to us with a very special request, it naturally became our mission to make their dream day come true…
In an outstanding building, nestled at the top of what is considered as one of the jewels of the Costa del Sol, the picture-perfect town of Mijas, the most magical day unfolded.
Built in 1900, the bullring in Mijas, with its peculiar oval shape that makes for one of its main features being almost unique in Spain, blends harmoniously into the whitewashed landscape of this iconic mountain village.
The first bullfighting event in Mijas took place on 8 September 1900. Since then, it has seen hundreds of young bull running events and on very special occasions, becomes the most unique setting to say “I do.”
With a planned wedding ceremony at a traditional Spanish bullring, the entrance had to be just as grand and what better way than with an elegant horse-drawn carriage for the radiant bride and her girl gang.
The carriage ride made for the perfect way for Becky to arrive in style, and all eyes were on her as she made her romantic and fairy-tale entrance.
A magical and uplifting service followed at the centre of this iconic space, so traditionally Spanish, a quintessential element of the country’s culture, with bright splashes of red around the yellow ochre oval that reflected the spring Andalucian sunshine.
Once the vows were said and the rings exchanged, the couple, now as husband and wife, walked back down the aisle of the wonderful outdoor space to where the horse-drawn carriage awaited, ready to whisk them to their chosen wedding reception location.
A stone’s throw away from the Mijas Castle, with unparalleled views of the Mijas valley and with the sea in the background, sits one of the town’s most iconic restaurants, founded in 1996; an elegant space which served on this happy day as the setting for Becky and Ryan exquisite wedding breakfast.
There, the newlyweds and their guests enjoyed a generous spread of Iberian ham and melon prawn cocktail for starters, followed by chateaubriand medallions with bearnaise sauce or pork tenderloin with black and red pepper sauce for the mains and mascarpone or cream Catalana as the sweet and final touch to the delicious meal.
The refined wedding reception ambience was completed with the vibrant melody of a Spanish guitarist, Bernado, who strummed some up-lifting flamenco-style music during the feast, keeping alive the Spanish vibe that sparked to life in the early hours of the day, on the grounds of the traditional bullring.
A Spanish vibe that ran through until dusk as the tropical night fell and the stars graced the Andalucian sky; wrapping up the most magical day for the lovely Becky and Ryan.
On behalf of the Sunshine team, we wish you both well as you embark on this next chapter of life.
A big thank you also to Paco Montagut for the use of these stunning images and to all our providers for their continued hard work and professionalism.
