Wedding blessing in Mijas | Church wedding celebration in Spain

Back

Celebrating a wedding blessing in the beautiful white washed town of Mijas, nestled in the hills with incredible views to the sea and mountains…

A stunning Spanish hacienda, with large expanses of grass, orchards and flowing fountains.

This quaint town, with plenty of good restaurants, shops, and beach-front bars, was the chosen location for the wonderful bridal couple Jayne and Geoff to celebrate their wedding in the sunshine.

Located just 20 minutes from Malaga airport, Mijas is one of the original fishing villages situated on the Costa del Sol—a perfect place to get a little quiet time in a beautiful destination.

A place the lovely Jayne and Geoff had visited for many years with their twins, holding it dear in their hearts, making the decision to have their wedding blessing in the area all the more special, as we find out in today’s Bridal Story where we will showcase all the memorable moments of the day.

An emotive wedding blessing in Mijas.
The Wedding Blessing—A quaint local church, a peaceful place to say “I do.”

At a quaint Mijas church, on the second Saturday of July this year, 2022, the lovely couple Jayne and Geoff said “I do.” On that brilliant summer’s day, the bridal couple’s wedding guests gathered inside the Mijas church expectant on the arrival of the radiant bride, who, to the traditional sound of the “Wedding March” entered the church on the arm of her father.

Surrounded by friends and family, the wedding blessing, led by Minister Padre Peter—one of Costa del Sol’s best-known officiants—was given, the vows were said and rings exchanged to the beautiful service music “Amazing grace”, sung by the amazingly talented and popular wedding singer in the area, Laura Elen.

The newlyweds celebrated their special day with their twin children.

Once the service had completed it was time for the wedding party to have a quick stroll through the cobbled streets of this quaint Spanish town before heading to the nearby Hacienda for the party to continue.

The Hacienda—Luxurious cortijo set on the foothills of Mijas Costa.

Following the traditional church blessing, the guests were transferred via a private coach service to the grounds of this stunning Spanish hacienda, where large expanses of grass, orchards and flowing fountains made for the perfect outdoor wedding venue.

There, the guests were offered a welcome drink on the front lawn and a wide range of hot and cold canapes and tapas treats, including: crunchy coated skewers of chicken with honey mustard dip, serrano ham and manchego cheese croquetas, forks of potato and onion tortilla and herb B¡bruschetta with fresh basil and baby tomatoes, all the while serenaded to the music of one of southern Spain’s most in demand wedding performers, Dave Cale on guitar.

Between the cocktail and the dinner, the bridal couple enjoyed a special photo shoot on the grounds of this stunning Hacienda, where the artistic photographer, Francisco Montagut, did an amazing job immortalising the magical day, especially those taken from the tower view accessed via the master suite. A space which boasts incredible panoramic views of the hills and the coast, a real wonder and a dream setting for some natural wedding photographs to be taken.

The wedding Breakfast—Surrounded by amazing, typical Andalusian landscapes.

Set against the rugged mountain-ranges that surround the finca, the guests were invited to be seated in charming outdoor space in the rear garden for an alfresco dining experience with a very rustic Spanish appeal.

With views overlooking the swimming pool the guests enjoyed a choice of Thai chilli and lime chicken wrap, with roasted beets and green salad dressed with spinach salsa, or salmon ravioli topped with micro leaves, mushroom parmesan with butternut sauce and olive oil for starters—with a Cheese Ravioli for those vegetarian guests. Followed by a delicious choice of serrano wrapped chicken breast stuffed with fruit, pistachios with a hint of spice in a sweet sherry sauce topped with fried onion strings with confit potatoes or rolled slow cooked Spanish beef “steak” filled with seasonal vegetables in Rioja and confit potatoes with a vegetarian option of vegetable tagine with chickpeas and root vegetables with cardamom baked rice.

A delicious meal that was finished off with a delicious trio of dessert that included a portion of: chocolate mousse, Spanish olive oil cake with lemon syrup and tangy Spanish lemon tart with vanilla crème topped with lemon zest.

Romantic moments wonderfully captured by photographer Francisco Montagut.

After the all-important speeches, the bride and groom cut the three tier vanilla & raspberry wedding cake and then made their way, with all their guests, to the dance floor that had been set up in the lower courtyard where they made their first dance as husband and wife and the wedding celebration of this intimate and fun wedding in Malaga continued to a catchy playlist at the hands of the amazing DJ Dave James, all the while everyone continued to enjoy the flow of exquisite food and drink provided by the newlyweds.

A memorable wedding day full of tradition, exquisite food and plenty of love, which continued the following morning with a cooked breakfast that led into an afternoon BBQ at the finca. We thank Jayne and Geoff for sharing their magical day with us, we wish you a long and happy marriage. A huge Gracias also to Francisco Montagut for the use of these incredible images.
