Stylish and Fun Wedding Photography From one of Mallorca’s Experts…

The magical Balearic island of Mallorca is hard to beat when it comes to evoking images of romance amidst a backdrop of breathtakingly stunning and totally unique landscapes – and that’s before you even take into account the vast array of beautiful destination wedding venues. So much variety is packed into this gem of a Mediterranean island paradise, all of which means choosing the right photographer to document the moments from your special day is a very important decision!

So it was an honour to chat with Billie, one of the island’s most talented wedding photographers to get the lowdown on what it’s like to capture newlyweds’ special days out and about in this fabulous destination:

I shot my first wedding fresh out of school at 16 years old. It was for a friend of my mum’s who was getting married in our local venue – a very small wedding – but I felt the pressure none the less!

I absolutely loved it and I was pretty much hooked from thereon in. I’d always done photography, even as a child; my grandfather was a photographer and taught me everything I know. It’s just something I’ve always been involved in – as both a hobby and for fun. I still can’t believe I get to call it my job now, too!

I moved to Mallorca about 6 years ago, fell into weddings, realised how much more beautiful they are here than at home… and never looked back. 

My family actually moved to Mallorca before I did. For some reason, the idea of joining them never initially interested me. But then I came over for a weekend away, and I literally never went home! I’m not sure exactly what it is about Mallorca but there is definitely magic in the air! 

It’s been really difficult for wedding vendors on the island this last year. We really rely on our summers to get us through the rest of the year, so to have that taken away from us so abruptly has been unimaginably difficult. I feel so terrible for the 2020 brides but just know that their big days WILL happen, and when they do, they will be even more special than you could ever have imagined. 

I honestly believe that it’s the people that make the wedding.

I remember one wedding where the guests were dancing even before the ceremony! It was one of the hottest days of the year; no breeze, no shade – all in all pretty intense! But the bride & groom and their guests had the most amazing attitudes, it lifted the whole day and is still one of my favourite weddings ever. Flowers will die, cake will be eaten, and dresses will be put away; but your memories (and your photos, of course!) will last forever… so make the most of it and don’t stress about the small stuff. 

I think it’s important to choose a photographer whose style you will still love in 10 years time. There are a lot of trends in photography that come and go very quickly; think to yourself “will I want this on my mantle piece in 10 years time?”. If the answer is yes then go for it! It’s also very important to choose a photographer who you get along with, although we typically like to work in the background we’re still here, there, and everywhere throughout the day.  

I have quite a friendly approach in my style and I like to get to know your bridal party and your families, to feel like I am a small part of your day – I feel it lets me capture more intimate moments than if I am simply in the background. I still talk to 90% of my past clients and get to see their journey after the wedding. And I’m always around for a glass of bubbly when they visit the island again!
