Wedding in Spain’s Mallorca: Traditional Spanish Ceremonies’…

Mid May is a wonderful time of year for a wedding in Mallorca, and for Andrea and Alfonso it was no exception. This stunning wedding venue is one of our most popular on the island. Jetting out over the crystal blue of the Mediterranean sea, the rustic stone villa overlooks green mountains and woodland.

Andrea and Alfonso wanted a traditional Spanish, yet tranquil, setting for their big day and when we showed them this breathtaking venue – with its large patio and splendid white marble temple on the edge of the cliff – they knew it would be the perfect place to host both the ceremony and wedding party.

The sun was shining as the first of the guests arrived. They enjoyed a welcome drink on the courtyard before moving on to the ceremonial area where chairs had been laid out facing the marble altar. At Sunshine Weddings Spain we pride ourselves on organising our weddings down to the very last detail, but unfortunately we can’t control everything. Where most couples opt for music or singing to accompany the bride as she makes her way down the aisle, Andrea’s arrival was announced by a local donkey braying in the distance. Luckily everyone found this highly amusing – much to the relief of our team. Officiated by Annie Varrinder, the blessing was a beautiful affair. Because of the groom’s Spanish background, and Andrea being German, there were readings in both languages which added a lovely personal touch. The couple now live in London, so the rest of the wedding was conducted in English.

Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed the wedding venue’s stunning views while enjoying canapes and some light refreshments. We work with the best caterers in Mallorca, and the guests really enjoyed the locally sourced food and flavours from the island.

The wedding meal was served outdoors on the large courtyard. Fairy lights were strung up, and flowers adorned the tables. Andrea and Alfonso decided that they would have their very own sweetheart table. This is becoming a popular option for those not wanting to exclude anyone from the top table, plus it’s a great way for couples to take a breather and enjoy some time alone – to really soak up their special day, surrounded by those they love.

As day turned to night, eating turned to dancing and the wedding couple enjoyed a magical first dance outside while the sea sparkled below. With the venue being a 16th century world heritage site, nestled atop a wooded mountain, we were unable to allow the wedding couple to release burning paper lanterns as they would have liked – so instead, to add to the romance of the occasion, guests were handed LED biodegradable balloons. Watching them disappear up into the stars was a truly beautiful sight.

As a special keepsake, the bride’s sister also organized a caricaturist to draw portraits of the guests – a quirky and fun memory of the day for all to take home. Along with an open bar, guests were also offered cocktails and a special G&T bar. The party went on until 4am in the morning, with Alfonso’s friend at the turntables. Even the groom had a go at being DJ on the night.

A beautiful sunny wedding in Mallorca filled with Spanish charm, great fun and lots of fantastic memories. Wishing you a lifetime of happiness, Andrea and Alfonso!
