Get married in a stunning spot on Spain’s Costa del Sol

A wedding in Estepona just became even more attractive. After months of work and millions of euros, the council of the pretty Spanish seaside town has completed work on the first phase of a massive beautification project, turning its seafront promenade into an urban garden. It’s such a sight! Hundreds of pedestrians walk through and around various garden beds full of different flowers, and with the sea just at arm’s reach.

But Estepona’s new sexy seafront promenade isn’t all this destination has to offer, in fact it barely scratches the surface. Let’s delve deep into this mesmerizing place and why a wedding in Estepona would absolutely not be a bad idea, at all.

Why more couples are opting for a wedding in Estepona

Nestled on the Costa del Sol in Andalusia, Spain, Estepona emerges as a gem awaiting discovery. With its picturesque landscapes, vibrant culture, and rich history, Estepona has earned its reputation as the Garden City of Spain. Estepona’s idyllic setting and romantic ambiance make it a dream locale for couples seeking a memorable destination wedding. The town’s stunning beaches, lush gardens, and historic architecture provide a captivating backdrop for exchanging vows. Whether it’s an intimate ceremony by the sea or a grand affair in a charming Spanish villa, Estepona offers a range of venues to suit every couple’s vision.

Sunshine is year-round in Estepona

Year-round sunshine

Estepona enjoys a Mediterranean climate characterized by mild winters and hot summers, making it an ideal destination for year-round travel and a wedding. With over 300 days of sunshine annually, visitors can bask in the warm glow of the sun regardless of the season. The town’s coastal location also moderates temperatures, creating pleasant conditions for outdoor activities and leisurely strolls along the promenade.

During the summer months, Estepona’s beaches come alive with sun-seekers and water enthusiasts. The refreshing sea breeze provides relief from the heat, while the crystal-clear waters beckon visitors to take a dip or partake in water sports. In contrast, the winter months still offer a peaceful respite, so perhaps even a winter wedding in Estepona?

Estepona: the garden city

In recent years, Estepona has experienced significant growth and development, transforming into a dynamic and cosmopolitan city while preserving its traditional charm. The town’s strategic location between Marbella and Gibraltar has attracted investment and spurred economic development, resulting in new infrastructure, amenities, and opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

Estepona’s revitalization efforts have focused on enhancing its urban landscape, promoting sustainable development, and preserving its cultural heritage. The town’s historic center, with its narrow cobblestone streets and whitewashed buildings adorned with colorful flower pots, remains a testament to its rich history and Andalusian charm. Meanwhile, modern amenities such as luxury boutiques, gourmet restaurants, and contemporary art galleries add a touch of sophistication to Estepona’s evolving identity.

One of Estepona’s most distinctive features is its abundance of green spaces and botanical gardens, earning it the nickname “the Garden City.” From meticulously landscaped parks to lush botanical sanctuaries, Estepona’s verdant oases offer a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

One of the town’s most iconic landmarks is the Selwo Aventura, a sprawling nature park home to a diverse array of wildlife from around the world. Visitors can embark on safari-style adventures, encountering exotic animals such as lions, elephants, and giraffes in their natural habitats. The park’s lush vegetation and scenic vistas provide a stunning backdrop for outdoor exploration and wildlife observation.

Additionally, Estepona’s commitment to environmental sustainability is evident in its numerous botanical gardens and green initiatives. The Orchidarium, Europe’s largest orchid house, showcases thousands of orchid species from across the globe, as well as native flora and fauna indigenous to the region. Meanwhile, the town’s network of greenways and eco-trails invites visitors to immerse themselves in nature while promoting eco-friendly transportation and outdoor recreation.

Wedding in Estepona: How to treat your guests to a fun time

A wedding in Estepona and its destination wedding venue hotels, villas or beach clubs makes for an idyllic way to celebrate love in front of family and friends, but in the days and weeks surrounding the big day, it’s nice to have an array of ideas to make the most of quality time with your nearest and dearest. So we at Sunshine Weddings Spain have put together some of Estepona’s most fun day trips and excursions in the following list:

Tapas and mural trail

Combine a leisurely stroll around Estepona’s infamous mural-clad buildings of the backstreets with a delicious tapas tour. It’s the perfect way to mix culture with the culinary. Estepona has some of the region’s best tapas bars, with a plethora of fish and seafood inspired dishes in particular. There’s no better way to enjoy these than by pairing them up with a wander around the town’s highly acclaimed mural sites. The murals started springing up in 2013 when the council began to commission these giant works of art, and now a tourist map has even been designed for them. They’re pretty magical and no visit to Estepona would be complete without seeing them!

Flower pot streets of the old town

Estepona’s old town is an absolute joy to discover. Superbly well-kept and teeming with flowers. But in addition to this, every street in the old town is colour coded with its unique shade of flower pots and these are proudly displayed on the walls of the whitewashed houses. As you can imagine, it makes for some stunning photographic opportunities and truly puts a spring in the step… A feature not to be missed.

Wedding in Estepona: Exclusive beach clubs

Yes, Marbella has some of the Costa del Sol’s most fabulous beach clubs, but Estepona and its outskirts are another great haven for those looking to spend a day at the beach in total luxury. Cabanas and hammocks, massages and decadent cocktails. These hangouts are the perfect place to relax and unwind before or after the wedding day, making magical memories with family and friends as you take in the breathtaking vistas of The Med.

Go-karting

Sometimes you just need a bit of adrenaline! Go-karting is a fun activity (and a really great ice breaker) for wedding guests to get to know one another. A bit of competition at Estepona’s go-karting track is an amazing way to spend a late afternoon as the sun begins to dip. It’s always thrilling to try something new in a group, and even more so with a sea and mountain view. The track is a good-sized one and the karting works on a ‘fastest lap’ basis.

Selwo is set across a vast area and its lions, flamingos, zebra (and many more wildlife species) can be appreciated on foot or on a vehicle tour.

And there’s a bustling and vibrant Sunday market here – the perfect excuse for a family brunch and some bargain hunting.
