An Interview with Eva, One of Andalusia’s Top Wedding Makeup Artists

The Costa del Sol is a popular and stunning destination wedding venue for bridal couples, when did you decide to base yourself here, Eva?
I arrived on the Costa del Sol at the age of 4. Although I didn’t make the decision to move here in the first place, I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. This is home for me and I hope to one day get married here myself!
What inspired you to pursue a career in the makeup industry and why did you decide to specialise in bridal beauty?
I always knew from a very young age that makeup was the career I wanted to pursue. I come from a very artistic family, so I guess you can say it is in my blood (ha ha). Once I became a qualified makeup artist, I jumped straight into the deep end taking on clients, and I quickly realised that the most rewarding sector of my industry was bridal makeup. 6 years later I still feel the same!
What advice would you give to a bride who is unsure of the look she would like to achieve on her special day?
Don’t be afraid to tell your makeup artist what you want. I always do as much as I can to make my bride’s day as relaxed and enjoyable as can be, so it’s always best if we work together to create your ideal glam! Jump online and see what type of looks are your favourites, screenshot them and show them to me. Together at your trial we can find a way to tailor the desired look to your features and skin type in order to make you look and feel flawless!
What are the big wedding makeup trends for 2021/2022?
I’d say that what is most popular at the moment are fluffier (yet still defined) brows, a healthy glowing complexion and a soft smokey eye!
Which products do you champion and what can we expect to find in your magical wedding makeup tool kit?
Prepping the skin is the number 1 factor in ensuring your makeup not only looks amazing, but lasts all day. Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin Enriched Face Base or Tom Ford’s Illuminating Primer are must haves for me. I love using NARS, Too Faced and Clinique foundations; Shape Tape or Born This Way concealers; a soft and fluffy professional brush collection, and of course my Laura Mercier loose powder and MAC bronzers.
What’s the best thing about being a bridal makeup artist?
I love being a part of someone’s special day. The atmosphere in the room is so light and happy, getting to meet so many lovely people, seeing the look on everyone’s faces when the bride appears ready to walk down the aisle. I can’t choose! I really enjoy my job, I couldn’t imagine my life without it.
What personal qualities (besides the obvious high level of skills and experience) do you need to bring to the dressing table in order to achieve the best results for your bridal clients?
I like to build relationships with my clients. It’s important to me that they feel comfortable around me and trust me to pull through on the day. Being a makeup artist isn’t just about the artistry, it’s about the way you balance professionalism and affability.
What are your favourite bridal makeup memories?
My favorite memory is having the mother of the bride approach me as I was about to leave, she gave me a hug and thanked me for the day by saying “the only thing that ran smoothly today was you.” She was so genuine that the moment has really stuck with me.
What is your favourite classic bridal makeup look that has stood the test of time?
I love bridal makeup that is glamorous but still feels and looks like skin. Once I was able to master the application of a flawless, lightweight complexion and paired that with colours and an eye shadow style that complimented the client’s features, I created my own signature and timeless makeup look!
Many weddings have – understandably – needed to be postponed due to the pandemic, what are you most looking forward to when they are fully in swing again?
I can’t wait for the world to go back to normal! Being able to spend time around people and to see others enjoying unforgettable moments together is really what life’s all about. I have really missed that.
