Cortijo Wedding in Nerja; Love is in the air for Nicole and Matt…

Imagine a stunning and contemporary wedding venue built in the colonial style of a grand 19th century Andalusian house; a luxurious property set amidst a mountainous and olive grove-studded backdrop of outstanding natural beauty and tranquility… and you have the classy Cortijo. A hidden gem nestled in the southern Spanish country side; an enchanting and truly blissful corner of the Earth, quite unlike any other. A space made for happiness. Small wonder that today’s featured bridal couple, Nicole and Matt were wowed by this idyllic property and its spacious gardens.

And what better location for a wedding in sunny southern Spain?

Of course, Nicole and Matt’s nearest and dearest were dazzled by the Cortijo too. But then it’s impossible not to be smitten by the allure of this fairy-tale destination wedding venue in Velez-Malaga. Sunshine Weddings loved helping to plan this wonderful bridal couple’s special day, seeing everything come to fruition this summer.

After a beautiful ceremony in a quaint church nearby, the bride and groom, their family and friends returned to the Cortijo so the wedding celebrations could begin in style. Guests mingled in the luxurious surroundings with their refreshments and canapes, soaking up the breath-taking atmosphere of the property and its estate, while Nicole and Matt had some absolutely exquisite photos taken by their super-talented photographer, Isabel. The Cortijo has so many brilliant areas for capturing memorable pictures of the wedding day. From miradors overlooking the rolling countryside, to a fabulous pagoda which frames the bridal couple and the scenery beautifully, through to a kaleidoscopic assortment of flowers.

Nicole and Matt’s nearest and dearest then gathered together for a scrumptious wedding breakfast which was followed by the quintessential wedding speeches and the cutting of their fabulous two-tiered pink cake.

There are two areas where the reception can take place – either in the attractive marquee which has the most incredible views of the campo or on the terrace; the latter becoming a ‘chill-out zone’ in the evening. Smaller weddings can benefit from the facilities of the hotel restaurant.

The Cortijo is the perfect mix of stylish and practical. This splendid venue boasts some 21 bedrooms – many in traditional style – it also offers 5 gorgeous junior suites, all decorated elegantly and in keeping with the Spanish period of the property’s depiction; a romantic and cosmopolitan era for Malaga in those days of old. Add to that the facilities of the 21st‘century, and you have first-class accommodation with plenty of room for the bride, groom, and a small bridal party besides to stay on-site, turning the wedding into a holiday or mini-break.

The Cortijo is also blessed with easy access, despite its seemingly remote location. Nearby Velez-Malaga – and the popular coastal resort town of Nerja – both have a great range of restaurants, and some lovely beaches, not to mention an array of first-class hotels; very handy for larger bridal parties, when guests seek accommodation a stone’s throw away.

Malaga and Almeria airports serve this part of the Costa del Sol, making transport easy for those flying from overseas to join in with the wedding day.

As night falls, the Cortijo can be transformed into something quite ethereal, as was most definitely the case at Nicole and Matt’s evening celebrations. Garlands of twinkly lights illuminated the outside spaces beneath the natural canopy of the moon and the stars. Musicians and bands, or a DJ, (or both!) add perfectly to the atmosphere allowing everybody to dance the hot summer’s evening away.

Congratulations once again to the lovely Nicole and Matt! We wish them a long, healthy and happy marriage. And we extend a HUGE thank you to photographer, Isabel Benetricht for the fantastic imagery in this article.
