Weddings are all about creating memories and having fun, with destination weddings the perfect opportunity to give families and friends the opportunity to come together and spend some quality time with one another.

Everyone has a different journey to marriage and after a prolonged global pandemic, it seems that some of the more recent weddings celebrated in Spain have been all the more emotional and emotive because of it.

From the early morning bridal preparations, to the sentimental vows, the wedding recessional to the first dance, a wedding more often than not spills with emotion from beginning to end.

Today, Sunshine Weddings Spain takes a look at some of our favourite heartfelt and romantic moments of the wedding day.

Heartwarming Wedding Moments

Bridal Preparations

The wedding morning is one of the key parts of the wedding day and the bridal preparations can be as fun and emotional as the rest of the big day. Most brides have their bridal party there and get ready with their bridesmaids and mother having hair and makeup done together. It’s really special to have all your closest friends together to support you on your wedding day and is the perfect time to take group photos with the girls and parents, beautiful photos that will be treasured forever.

Walking down the aisle

One of the most memorable moments of any wedding day is when the bride walks down the aisle, the sentimental moment often first starts when the father-of-the-bride sees his beautiful daughter in her wedding dress for the first time and their reaction is always one that pulls on our heartstrings. The father-daughter relationship is a beautiful thing – she is forever his little girl, no matter the age, but this is a magical day and also a new beginning for her. This is a moment where a single picture can mean so much.

From that first flood of sentiment, it’s time to walk down the aisle, where it’s now time for the bride and groom to see each other for the first time, and once again emotions run high as time slows down for just a second.

Sentimental Vows

Get ready for the waterworks! The ceremony serves as the heartbeat of the big day and is the moment where there is always ample use of handkerchiefs from all sides, but just as the tears of emotion and joy are shared, more contagious is the happiness, laughter and love, culminating when the bridal couple share their first kiss as newlyweds.

Emotive speeches

Good speeches can elevate a wedding from a happy occasion to a magical one. Most have a mix of humour, love and nostalgia, gratitude and earnest emotions. A lot of thought and time go into creating a unique wedding speech and is the perfect moment in which the closest friends, the best man, father-of-the-bride dedicate endearing words, with a raised glass, to the wedding couple.

Cake cutting

This charming tradition is one of those wedding day moments forever immortalised in wedding albums. The cake cutting represents the first activity done as a couple, and often, the most elegant part of the reception is the wedding cake.

A moment where the groom, following more recent symbolism, often places his hand over the bride’s when cutting the cake to show his support and as a promise to take care of her and their future.

First Dance

The first dance is perhaps one of the most anticipated moments for the newlyweds, as well as their guests, a tradition which may date back to the 17th century. Another heart-warming wedding moment steeped in tradition and ceremony, a moment to demonstrate on the dance floor the same qualities that are needed for a good relationship in life, firm support and sensitivity to the subtle changes in each other’s movements. A first dance well learnt, executed in harmony, will not only help add a magical touch to the wedding day, it will help add magic to the marriage as well.
