Brazil is known worldwide for its exciting, bright and loud musical culture and a Brazilian drummers can really add some exotic flair to your big day as we find out in today’s feature article where we chat all things high energy and rhythm with the artistic Daniel Molina, a talented Brazilian percussionists based on the Costa del Sol.

Welcome Daniel, and thanks for taking a moment out of your busy schedule to join us today and talk a bit about yourself and your cocktail of exotic energy with great sounds.

Tell us a bit more about yourself, where are you from and how your passion for music began?

My name is Daniel Molina and I have been a percussionist for more than 20 years. I was born in Salvador Bahia Brazil and raised in a cradle of musicians, so music has always formed an important part of my life. I then trained professionally at the Federal University of Bahia.

Music has permitted me to travel through several countries in Latin America (Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia) giving me the opportunity to learn and improve my own skills with the musical styles of each place.

How would you describe your musical style?

My musical style is afro tribal house. That’s to keep it simple, but really what I have or what I do is an animation project with percussion. This is a performance where I mix deep funk house music with Latin Brazilian and African percussion. It’s quite a unique and new style on the Costa del Sol, with a lot of percussive energy the public loves. I play congas, timbales and djembe (an African drum played by beating with the hand) and my shows are for adults and children alike.

From Brazil to Malaga, how did you end up on the Costa del Sol?

I ended up living in Costa del Sol because I received an invitation to teach at a percussion festival, that was quite a few years ago now, but I was lucky enough to be able to stay, and here I am, living from what I most love, music.

How did you start performing at weddings and what do you like most about performing at weddings?

I first started performing at weddings at the invitation of a saxophonist friend, that wedding led to another, and then another and I haven’t looked back since. What I like most about performing at weddings is to be able to make people happy, make them dance, create a good vibe and deliver good energy.

What musical set do you recommend for a wedding?

Latin house, but always adapting to the taste of the client.

Any funny anecdotes that have happened to you when performing at a wedding?

There are plenty of special moments, happy moments and fun moments that have happened to me when performing at weddings and what has happened to me more than once is that people come up to me and want to play the instruments.
